I do this online program called ALEKS. It requires some little Java thing, which I install. Still, "missing plugin" how do I fix this?

Java Applet not working on Lion

This is so easy, I'm surprised more people haven't figured this out yet.
Open Java Preferences in your Applications -> Utilities folder. This will fail with an error about Java not being installed, and will then offer to download it.

This is what I've heard. Give it a try. If it won't download through Software Update then yes, you probably need an ADC account.
It downloaded java runtime when I ran Lion for the first time.
But as appears java applets don't run.

Java For Mac OS X 10.7
You must be an ADC Member, but this will get you Java for 10.7. I am an ADC Member and now Java works.

Applications -> Utilities folder -> Java Preferences App -> (checked box) Enable applet plug-in and Web Start applications
