Best Buy is offering special two-day pricing on MacBook Pro models as part of its Winter Doorbuster sale, following on its $200 promotion earlier this week on MacBook Air models.

Amazon has reduced pricing to compete with Best Buy, though purchasers should take sales tax and convenience into account when making a purchase decision. Best Buy is also offering $20 off for buyers who buy online and pick up in-store.

I'm not positive, but I think this is what we paid for my wife's 13" MBP a week or two ago from Amazon. I'm not sure these prices are new.

EDIT: Yup. It's been this price since at least 1/21.

I don't really need a new laptop just yet, so I'm waiting for the Haswell refresh (whenever that comes). The GPU boost will be good with the retina display. But sales like this don't help my lack of patience!

I know I'm gonna sound like a rube asking this but doesn't Apple forbid discounting of their current line up? Don't they cut off any re-seller caught doing it?

To prevent temptation, just think about the next version that should be around the corner, that will have you salivating.

Agreed.. Right now isn't all that great a time to buy much.. a month ago i was conpemplating buying a ps3, 360.. apple TV, or scrap it all and spring for a mbp..
*waits patiently and whimpers like a sad dog*

Seems like those that decide the prices at Best Buy would know whether or not this was allowed.

Still mega costly. I am pretty sure apple makes their ssd out of pure gold. It is the only thing that explains $300 for a 128gb jump.

My guess is that Apple approved of this. They may be experimenting to find the right price point for when this model goes mainstream.

Son of a bitch...I JUST bought a retail priced retina MacBook at the apple store because best buy had it for the same price yesterday. Now a day later it's $200 cheaper? Not cool. I could've saved $200 by waiting a day :-( nobody told me!

I seem to recall that the laws state that any store can sell anything for any price (assuming its not anti-competitive like Amazon was doing with the ebooks) but they can't advertise it at that price. They can say "On sale" but that's all they can tell you, until you walk into the store.

Seeing as this went out in an email, Apple approved of this. That tells me that they're incredibly responsive to their quarterly earning reports where sales fell 22%, and are trying to see how much they need to discount the next generation model to get product sales where they want it.
