You can change the size of text in Safari (preferences>advanced)

it is

I'm having a hard time switching from old set-up of 20"iMac and 42" plasma being used as main display

Im now trying to use the 27" like i used the 42 and it isn't working, obviously I'm too far away

Going to resort to old set up of both displays for a few days, I ca't quite get my head around the safari windows with the bit in the middle and blank spaces either side on full screen,

tiny text...

and would you believe the old one now works. damn thing!

Ive got 3 'displays' on my desk now, and the most obvious difference between them all is the lack of glare/ reflection on the new iMac,

thanks :) am using zoom on the trackpad quite a lot

I think tbh I'm getting old and have spent too much of my life in front of a monitor.. I'm going to have my eyes tested.

UPS making second delivery attempt today, apparently. I'm not going anywhere, I feel like if I so much as use the washroom they're going to do a knock and run!

Migrating Data

This is just a cautionary tale for those of you that might be migrating data over from Leopard...

I got my iMac on Monday (4th), I turned it on at work and set up a user account (I couldn't help myself...:D). When I got home, I tried to run migration assistant using ethernet between my two iMacs with everything coming over (users, apps, settings, docs). Didn't work. It got right to the end and stuck for several hours.

I did a clean install after wiping the hard drive the next night and tried migration assistant right from the start. Still no luck. Instead of creating one user, it created two with the same name and logged me in to the one without any of the files accessible.

I ended up deleting the migration-created user and then just manually copied all my documents and files to my new machine from my external hard drive. I'm finally done and I get to actually enjoy this new monster!

I don't know what actually was causing Migration Assistant to stall but I assume it was the older OS (Leopard). Maybe if I had Snow Leopard or newer it would have worked fine.

To all of those still waiting, it's totally worth the wait. This thing is AWESOME.

Good luck with all your orders.

I made the mistake of supporting an Apple specialist reseller here in Melbourne and ordered a BTO 27 on 21st DECEMBER 2012.

They are telling me that I can expect delivery in MARCH 2013, but they are a bit vague about it and have made NO ENQUIRIES to Apple about delivery dates. No follow-up, just sit back and take the orders.

Clearly Apple are giving their own stores priority for deliveries, and couldn't care less about the survival of their dealers.

I will never make this mistake again. I may never buy Apple again, but if I do this dealer will lose a long-term customer... I will not return.

First Mac: 128k original.
Last Mac: BTO iMac... if it ever arrives.

Bunch of slack bastards.

Lizardofoz, that's really tough mate, I feel for you. Just as I was getting annoyed that my order places Jan 18th hasn't moved from processing when others from the 19th are. Hope you get yours soon

Just a note to everyone

If you only ordered 8Gb of RAM from Apple and were intending to update at a later date

You may want to get that RAM ready prior to delivery. As an experiment I watched my 2009 iMac and new one side by side and the new one eats it up quicker. It was using 5/6 on basic stuff. I've filled it up to 32 now. I think 16Gb would be a minimum for most people. I can't imagine 8 being enough

Well, that depends on . . .

When did you order?
When did it ship exactly?
Where do you live?
If in USA, what State?
Did you pay for Express Shipping?
What Machine and specs did you Order?

(note: I paid for Express shipping but they credited it back to me. and it seems i am still getting Express Service as my shipped on the 5th but left China on 6th but I get it on Friday at 10:30 am or sooner that same day.)

After I see the answers then I can give you a Educated Guess.

Order date: 14th of Jan
Shipped: 1st of Feb
Live in Sweden
Didn't pay for express shipping.
Ordered a 3.2ghz i5, 8gb RAM, 1TB fusion, 680MX, also ordered parallels.
The preliminary delivery date is between 14feb-21feb.

UPS made a label today, so i guess they have merged/or will merge the imac and parallels soon since they were sent from different locations, and because of that I havent been able to track my order at all.

Mine just arrived!

How long have people in colder climates been waiting before doing anything with their machines (i.e. swapping in new RAM and booting up)?

Mine seems to be doing a world tour too - Shanghai, Alaska, Kentucky, Philadelphia, France...I'm hoping it's London next, but in fairness I wouldn't be all that surprised if Narnia was its next stop.

i waited an hour or 2, I even put the heating on for it! RAM went in 24 hours later.- again it needs the extra, 8 is not enough.

2 questions on this.

I would never have thought about waiting to switch it on! Why do this?

I am moving from a laptop with 3gb of RAM! Is 8 really not enough? I was going to see how it goes, but if you tried it out with 8 and found a difference with more. I might just go and order some now.

Cheers

i waited because the thing was very cold. it had been sat in vans all night and the metal was really cold.

probably unnecessary, but I'm happier being safe after reading reports of condensation on the back of some.

the RAM could have gone in straight away, but i was curious just how much I would need.

8 isn't enough. i am currently watching iplayer, reading this forum and downloading my iTunes library from the cloud, my mail app is open and that is using 7GB of RAM

I had 4Gb on my 20 iMac. it just about coped with exactly the same applications open. This mac eats more RAM than my old one. I've set them doing exactly the same tasks, to check speed/processor use and RAM gobbling :)
