Jailbreak? There are a number of Jailbreak tweaks that will accomplish the same thing as well. It's available for iOS 6.0/6.1 now.
If you can't get this method to work, you could jailbreak and use Zeppelin to do the same thing.
I didn't make an etched version because the original picture already has black shadows on the bottom.

FakeCarrier will let you change the text to anything and I think the logo. There's also one I think called Zepphyr. Just google around. There are practically limitless tweaks and themes for iOS.

Google is your friend, but Zeppelin is the name of the tweak that lets you replace it with logos. Doesn't require iTunes or anything, in fact it's easier than this method, and can be easily switched in the phone on the fly.
And with Zeppelin you can always add more image packs via Cydia if the one you want isn't included with the app. There are literally hundreds to choose from.
Again I figured an etched version would be unnecessary. But if you want one I'll make it.
EDIT: I think this might look odd on the black status bar. If you could apply it and post a screenshot then I can see what needs to be done to it.

I redid it by adding a white border. That should help make it look better on the black status bar. There's also an etched version.

I actually went through entire thread twice before posting.
I only found the regular blue and white AT&T globe though. I want it without the blue, like in the picture I posted.

Can you tell me what these zeppelin image packs are called and how to get them into zeppelin? I'd like to add some to mine.
