This looks ok..

....right up until the point i read it uses Bluetooth or tethered to you iPhone, and connect over Wi-Fi on order to successfully use this thing.

Theres goes your data :)

As if people don't already have huge bill they over-see after they roam internationally, this will only add further to this, because the mind set is "This is soo cool"

This will be changed to "this soo sux" when they get their bill from their carrier

This reminds me of picture-in-picture...... that didn't really find it in todays TV's

How is this any different? to the fact that "The only reason why keeping this alive is people are demanding its just "cool factor"

And this, just only we have a piece of existing technology, but now its part of something, like glass, we never had before, suddenly makes it "I want one".

Not interested. but it looks good..

Another thing, this will only further go via the privacy thing..

So we've made a leap from 'it has a bluetooth connection' to 'it will send Gb of data to google over the internet whether you like it or not'. Until such point as we establish that it has no ability to work at all without an active internet connection and that the glasses will prevent users from switching off their connected phones internet connection, then I'd hold off on those uninformed rants.

Google are trying something new and disruptive. We'll see if it works and catches on, then pass judgment

Same could be said of a smartphone.

Not really

All it does is perform basic mobile functions.

In addition to browsing the web, listening to music, watching movies, playing games etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

You have to click/tap at it to make it work, which will be very annoying in public.

It really isn't.

You have to carry around a brick.
Have you actually lifted the Galaxy S3? It's quite lightweight.

They were pretty expensive.

Yeah, 20 years ago.

Pretty sure that the price will go down, and... well, Glasses are literally omnipresent smartphones you can access without having to pull them out of a pocket. Big appeal if you ask me.

Prices will go down if they stick and are still used in 10 years. Glasses aren't for everyone. Everyone carries phones, not everyone wants to wear glasses. For now, I don't see any appeal of this product. Maybe in the future if they start doing everything a smartphone can do, and somehow were invisible or can be "put in" any designer glasses, maybe then.

I think even Apple couldn't distort reality that much to make this seem like a worthy product. They are not that good.

most of the public at large disagrees with you and thinks Glass can be a major innovation.

In fact, the only people down on this seem to be Apple fanboys and possibly Microsoft fanboys.

How bout that?

I certainly doubt that's true. We'll see how the public at large chooses to act when the product is released. Whether the glass is a major innovation or not is not the issue here. Innovation doesn't make a great product. Sure, this is a really cool gadget which I'd love to own simply due to seeing this kind of device in sci-fi movies all these years. But me wanting to own the device is completely different than thinking that it's useful at all. So imho people who think this device is cool are geeky people like me, and not really considering the usefulness of the device. Because as it stands I can't think of any ways that this device will actually make things easier rather than harder.

Btw, I think an iWatch is equally useless but at least it'll be cheaper than 1300$ if it ever happens. And I'm an Apple fanboy. Any device which requires other mobile devices to function properly seems like an appendix right now. When the time is right, and they can put all the technology in a phone or tablet into glasses or watches, then those devices will make sense to me.

Says who?

Depends on the opinion I think. If someone's opinion is that apples are blue, that opinion refers to a fact about apples, that apples are not blue. So it's wrong. But most opinions refer to things that are not known or can't be known, but can be discussed, and as such can't be correct or wrong.

Just my opinion mind you but this is one of the dumbest products ever.

Just my opinion mind you but this is one of the SMARTEREST* opinions ever.

----------

It seems to me like google is just throwing everything they can think of against the wall and waiting to see what sticks. Let's look at this objectively:

  • It performs basic mobile functions and nothing else
  • You have to talk to it to make it work, which will be very annoying in public
  • You have to wear a very unflattering pair of glasses
  • It is outrageously expensive

What, exactly, is the appeal of this device? Who is it for? Skydivers who don't want to buy one of those go cameras?

Yeah, Google never should have wasted their time making this silly product. I mean if I don't want this type of thing I don't see the other 6+ billion people on the planet finding some utility in this. Stupid Google.

Just because Apple doesn´t show prototypes or stuff they´re currently working on years before the actual product rolls out, just like Google´s been doing it for at least a couple of years with this glasses, doesn´t mean Apple isn´t innovating behind closed doors.

Just like with the iWatch and Apple TV, I´m sure Apple is working on something similar to this glasses and some other stuff we can´t even imagine.

I disagree. I think Apple is out of fresh ideas and is rethinking where it wants to go. Ain't no Willy Wonka's chocolate factory..

----------

I see people buying these and then wearing normal glasses later on, forgetting that they're normal glasses and then yelling "GOOGLE!!!!! TAKE A ********** PICTURE NOW!" in the middle of a crowded street. Now that would be something hilarious and awesome to post on youtube after it happens.

Lmfao. That got me busting up.

----------

It is my opinion that 1+1=4.

You are awesome.

----------

Not sure if the idea of the distraction of these for drivers is the worst, or the privacy issue, or the weird borg look.

The real reason this was made is... Porn.

Yep

as usual.. just because it's not from apple.. this is just "google throwing things at the wall to see what sticks". but if this was developed by apple.. people here would rejoice and call it the most innovative thing ever. a lot of you are just hating for no reason or are just plain ignorant. did you guys even check out the verge's coverage of it? a lot of you that are hating on it have stated things that are just false and have been covered already by that article. be glad that at least google's trying to push technology forward. will it make your life worse if this succeeds or fails? i'm sure if this does succeed, it will help spark new ideas from others companies.. apple including. heck.. apple might even come out with a better implementation.

Innovation is only innovation when it actually makes in impact on society for the better. This idea was around decades ago. There were college students at MIT, etc. that had portable computers with eye glasses. All these things are going to do is cause problems. What kinds of problems? If you buy these things, expect to get them stolen from you or your a$$ kicked. Most people don't want to have some loser with a video camera facing them while they talk to someone. How do you get the user to take them off? If you ask nicely and they don't remove them, people might resort to just taking them off for them causing fist fights.

Apple not innovating? Fusion drives is an innovation that is USEFUL. The hybrid hard drives isn't the same thing, Fusion drives are VERY useful and that's a cool innovation.

What else has Apple done in the innovation department? Well, the iPhone and iPad are the most copied products, so those as they are are innovative.

I think that you get sucked into some Google marketing BS.

People coming out with major technology shifts doesn't happen every day, Innovations that actually make an impact on society don't come around and Apple's made HUGE impacts on the way people use computers in different industries over the years. People are used to them innovating, but right now they are evolving their innovations. I'm sure we'll see some more impactful innovations, because the innovations have to "stick" and provide a shift in how people work and live. Google hasn't really done much in the innovation area other than copy Apple.

These Glass devices is a STUPID innovation that's just gonna get the user's a## kicked and laughed at.

If you cannot see the practical application of this technology you are shortsighted.

Edit: I personally wouldn't want to wear them. And 90% ADULTS that have any type of negative opinion about this product would probably keep it to themselves until the person was out of earshot. Big and bad huh?

----------

Or they can just simply beat the user up and easily take them. These things are probably going to cause a LOT of fist fights. Because people just aren't going to want some LOSER video taping them without permission.

You're awfully hostile. Are you like one of those forum tuff guys?

----------

Don't like a free world there tough guy? Maybe you would be better suited to just staying inside and not venturing out where the mean people in public can record you.

Satellites are watching you, street cams are watching you, security cameras are watching you, film and photo enthusiast are capturing your image, google maps has your house posted in all its first person glory.

BUT, you're all bent out of shape over the guy with the camera goggles.

So tell us, what are you going to do when someone looks at you with these glasses? Hurt them?

lol. He'll probably walk by unnoticed. The wearers of the famed glasses never the wiser that he is an internet tuff guy of low level.

Slightly off.

Imagine someone is standing near you (say arm's length). It's pretty obvious if they have a rectangular box in their hands that also happens to have a camera lens on the side facing you. Google Glass? People can be much more discrete since a) coming from Android's level of customization, I bet there is some way to turn off the record light and b) it's their glasses. It's not something they have to hold up and make obvious to world that they are recording. There is also no viewfinder. It's just that little glass screen that is basically only visible to the wearer.

And day #1 EVERYONE will be using the record function just like they did with Siri.

ME: " Siri where can I hide a dead body? "

SIRI: - " There are swamps, ore refineries and a mine nearby! Good luck, John! "

any scenario involving you doing something with your hands while getting info via a list (on paper, computer, gadget.. whatever).. will be a scenario in which these types of glasses will be beneficial and make things easier..

and if you think about it, there are quite a few of these types of scenarios on a daytoday basis..

Some day they will have this all built into a contact lens. I love this and if they give me an option besides using voice to control it I would buy one. What if you could mirror your iOS, Android or windows 8 device to it? That alone would be frigin sweet.

I would hardly say this is Google "throwing everything they can think of against the wall and waiting to see what sticks." They are creating a product of the future (and as far as I can tell, releasing it before Apple). Whether or not this product is widely adopted, we are going to have something like it in the future.

1. It provides mobile functions from your face, hands free.
2. People already talk to their phones, and to Siri. I'm guessing most people will be using this while being active (working on a project in their studio, skydiving, doing gymnastics), and not from a library or while on a commuter train.
3. People wear much more unflattering things, and I'm sure these will look better with time.
4. People said the same thing about the rMBP (and countless other cutting edge products). New technology is expensive. You don't need to adopt it at that price, but someone else will.

----------

"innovating" is easier when you are willing to throw anything at the wall and home something sticks.

Yeah, because only about 1 in 100 Google products is innovative........

.......

----------

An opinion cannot be wrong.

You are correct. His opinion isn't wrong, it is dumb.

is this a joke?
$1500.00 :D

and it's vapourware ....

why do companies announce products you can't buy?
You seem to lack the understanding of what the term "vaporware" means.

This is a real product that is being produced in limited numbers for a select few beta testers and developers.
