There are many good reasons for an iPad jailbreak, I use NCSettings along with Dashboard X to make my iPad much more functional. MultiIconMover and the keyboard swipe to make move the cursor are some of the most useful tweaks.

iTransmission 2 is also really nice!

I have this on my ipad now, but how do I get it to work on my ipad? I have sites I go to for those things, but does it automatically open in itransmission on my ipad?

----------

I'm not being critical or judgemental here, but I've always been curious about something on this forum; if someone mentions Installous or pirated apps, they get flamed (rightly so, in most cases).

But it's ok to give advice on how to pirate other stuff like movies / tv / music via XBMC etc? Doesn't make sense to me!

I'm not a XBMC pro by any means, but some things on xbmc are streamed and not pirated. I think watching and owning are different. Also, xbmc has lots of things that are available free of charge to stream (ie YouTube, hgtv, etc.) For me it just makes things a little more simplified to be able to view them all in one place instead of 2-3 different apps.

Just copy the magnet link and open it up in iTransmission.

As for watching streamed media on XBMC, that's like saying having the black cable box in the old school early 90's and watching PPV is legal.

I'd love to have a jail broken iPad but are you kidding me? Aside from tethering and XBMC, there's ryqbt4 so you can sync car ob2 with dashcommand and a cheap adapter, or a heart rate monitor if you work out. There's 3G unrestricter to FaceTime anywhere, there's a tweak to output to your tv Netflix (or anything) via cheap mono price component cables. Hell use the retina display as a 2nd monitor for your computer.

Yes, the usual stuff like "any video you don't purchase from iTunes Store MUST be pirated". The guy doesn't seem to know video freaks rip their Blu-ray discs themselves to gain MUCH better video quality, MUCH better extra support, MUCH better audio / subtitle support than with most iTunes Store movies.

See https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1376130/ for more info on all these if interested.

What about RetinaPad?

Yup, an absolute must on the iPad 1 / 2, particularly after Apple's removing antialiasing in iOS5 to make iPad 1 / 2 users upgrade to the iPad 3. (And Apple's lying to people complaining about this, their stating "Antialiasing was just a bug in iOS3.2.X/4.x; this is why it needed to be removed".)

Works just great under 6.1 on my iPad 2.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure even streaming copyright content from those sites is considered piracy since the copyright owners are not getting compensated for their work.

If I already use Plex & airvideo to stream from my computer. Is there any reason for me to jailbreak for xbmc?

That's interesting. I don't know if that's true or not, but I literally watch Scandal and House Hunters on XBMC. One thing I can say is ABC removes Scandal episodes from early season 2 so the only way to find them is via XBMC and maybe YouTube. It's not stuff that wasn't once available on their site. They've just taken it down to put more recent updates up. I'm not sure of the legality of that, but I find XBMC convenient for that.

The bottom line is there are things that are black and white, but there are also many gray areas with the whole streaming debate. Not everyone is downloading music, movies, and porn though.

Well - if you don't want to keep your desktop turned on all the time AND has already a NAS drive (with SMB or UPnP), you could stream to XBMC directly from there.

And let's not forget that f.lux is a MUST unless you want to have insomnia ;)

(BTW, It's Playing also supports hardware acceleration for MKV files in the just-released version.)

As far as I can tell, there's very little you can do with a jailbroken iPad. Anyone have any interesting tweaks and themes?

Also anything good for free? I want to try some free apps before deciding on paying $ on hacked apps...

There is way around buying the cydia apps to try them out before purchasing them. Different developers make the same tweaks and apps for free.

What tweak doesn't?

Quasar, RetinaPad, SkypeRecorder, AirBlue Sharing, AirServer, 3G Unrestrictor, BeeKeyboards, Blutrol, BTC Mouse and Trackpad, BTstack GPS, CameraConnector, DisplayRecorder, MyWi, most functionality of SpringTomize etc. are available in paid-only apps.

You must not know how to work cydia very well then. I searched the first three and all had free options for me, and i've used MyWi for free as well.

1. Please tell me which free app offers the same (or at least comparable) windowing capability as Quasar? Which does record Skype calls (except for SkypeRecorder?) What about antialiasing and, on Retina iPads, even further cleaning up text via RetinaPad?

2. or, did you mean repos offering cracked / pirated versions of these same apps?

The answer is 2. The post wanted to know if there was a way he could test out the apps and tweaks without buying them. Was just answering his question. Sorry for the confusion.

Download pirated/cracked app - don't like it - delete it.
Download pirated/cracked app - like it- delete it and buy the paid version.

That system works great for me, and I have never made a regretful purchase.
