I was initially running iOS 6 Beta on my iPhone 4S and Facetime worked well over cellular. I am now running the real iOS 6 on it and the last time I tried making a Facetime Call over Cellular it still worked. So even though we are under AT&T's network it doesn't prevent us from using FaceTime

So you're saying Facetime works with Straight Talk? It must not take long before you get to ST's infamous 2GB unlimited cutoff.

Can I ask since its been a few months any regrets or problems?
I have a iPh5 on Verizon and was going to return it then purchase a GSM unlocked iPh5 from Apple, but if this works I would be willing to pay the $350. early term and go the route of Straight Talk.
I still have 2 #'s under contract for a few months that I need.

Can you advise as to how you figure out how to cut the sim down properly?
Also did you get the sim form eBay or Wal-mart?
I don't want to hose the sim personally.

THANKS

No problems whatsoever. FaceTime works over celluar just fine. Don't really send MMS to anyone without IMessage so haven't tested that but many people here are saying its possible to find the correct settings.
Once again for the people who are incorrectly giving info for the people in the know the Verizon iPhones are all unlocked and work on CDMA and GSM.
For cutting down the micro sim I would buy a sim cutter off amazon for around ten bucks.
You could like me try cutting it down by hand but there is always a risk of ruining it:
Got the Sim direct from Straight Talk , most Walmarts don't sell the SIM just the airtime.

If you have an att iPhone, it doesnt matter if its unlocked or not. the ST will work in it. This is because the ST is a att.mvno. all you have to do from there is either go to http://www.unlockit.co.nz or do the hot swap and go. No need to pay extra to have the phone unlocked when an att iphone will work with a ST sim with no problem. My iPhone 4 is not unlocked and im on straight talk with everything working.

I am on att prepaid $25 a month have no issues except for mms which I need to work on....

What $25 plan do you have with ATT? I thought $50 with Sprint was the cheapest there was... does your plan have 4G, even if the data is limited?

Anything you'd share as to where you got the plan, I'd appreciate it. I have an ATT 4s, and would go buy a retail full price iPhone 5 if it would get me 4G speeds.

Thanks in advance!

internet speed

I purchased a 64gig Verizon Iphone 5 from somebody off Craigslist (800 dollars)
and cut the Straight talk micro sim down by hand with scissors using the another nano as a template and help from the internet and i have everything working perfectly. Imessage, Facetime etc all ok.
The sim fits if you cut correctly, it doesnt need to be made thinner. It will fit.
Great to be able to use the Iphone 5 with Straight talk. No LTE of course but i dont care about that, for me 3G is fast enough.
The Verizon Iphone is the one you should all get as they have made theres fully unlocked even under contract.
If you guys or girls have any questions would be glad to help.
:)

----------

Used unlockit.nz for the APN settings.

Are only getting any higher than 3G spped with Straight Talk?

Yes you can, the iPhone 5 that they sell is a Verizon Phone and its unlocked and you can use it with any nano sim.

That plan has no data included for $25, but data can be added. More details @ http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/plans/prepaidplans.html

Straight Talk has no LTE. The do have the slower HSPA+ 4G.

I don't get why people spend that much on a phone and then use a crapy service like straight talk haha it's really only saving you 2/300 $ over the 2 years, maybe I'm crazy but I'd never pay over $500 for a phone especially from Craigslist! Let alone 1100!! I'd rather get a MacBook lol

Contract vs no contract IPhone 5 costs

I don't get why people spend that much on a phone and then use a crapy service like straight talk haha it's really only saving you 2/300 $ over the 2 years, maybe I'm crazy but I'd never pay over $500 for a phone especially from Craigslist! Let alone 1100!! I'd rather get a MacBook lol

Lets do the math. First we start with Verizon. Other contract carriers are about the same. 32 gig IPhone 5.

Phone Cost: $299.00
Monthly Cost: $100.00
Contract Term: 24 Months.

299+(100*24)=299+2400=$2699 for two years.

Now we do Straight Talk, same length of service.

Phone Cost: $749.00
Monthly Cost: $45.00
Service Length: 24 Months

749+(45*24)=749+1080=$1829 for two years.

The net difference in cost for two years is $870.00. That is more than the cost of brand new 64 gig IPhone 5. Using a contract you are effectively paying more than twice what the phone is worth even though the initial cost of the phone was less. That is pure profit to the provider. Your claim of "2/300 $ over the 2 years" is way off the mark. Maybe you are crazy:)

Straight talk says LTE works....???

So I have been thinking about making the transition from AT&T to Straight Talk so I called up straight talk to ask about the coverage and ask about LTE. I was told by thier "iphone specialist" that if you have coverage in your area for LTE then the phone will have LTE support/connection on Straight Talk. Have I been lied too???:(

For the AT&T Straight Talk service, you get HSPA+, but not LTE. The rep might have been talking about the T-Mobile Straight Talk service, as they no longer sell AT&T SIMs. I'm not sure if T-Mobile service includes LTE or if it's also limited to HSPA+.

100% completely lost

I have an old, ancient, regular cell phone. My wife and I are looking into Smart Phones. Basically, it's down to the Galaxy and the Iphone. We are also debating on going with Straight Talk for the Iphone. Can someone give me some sort of info and or guidance. Also, can I get some sort of guide of all these abbreviations everyone is using on here? Like LTE or CDMA EV-DO. Im totally clueless with all of this. Also, what does it mean having the phone unlocked and what are the benefits?? Thanks to everyone in advance

HELP.. Here is my situation..
I have worked for VZW yeah support for 6 years and left to be a stay at home mom. So no more unlimited grandfathered plan or 50% off :(. So we moved our iphone 5's over to TMobile.. Easy move, their sims work flawlessly and we have service it just sucks in our area ! .....
So I call straight talk and have been told by 6 people Verizon iphone 5s aren't unlocked and don't take sims... Idiots!!!!
My question is .. Since tmobile sucks here is my best best to get the AT&T sim and cut it down and then manually enter these settings I keep seeing. And if so I assume I just use my old sim as a template? Can I use regular scissors?
Once I get the sim instAlled will walmart port my number after I buy the plan card?
Ppppplease email me responses at tsaandrade@gmail.com if you don't mind

Hi, I created an account here just to give some information to those that are in the same boat as myself.

First things first, I bought a "non-commitment" AT&T iPhone 5 from the Apple Store at full price.

I then took my current straight talk micro-SIM and cut it down to nano-size (Using the AT&T nano-SIM as a pattern). Just as an fyi, you will need to get some sand paper to finely tune the shape, as it is harder because it's much smaller than the micro. You also have to make it "thinner" as well using the sand paper. Once you get it to fit correctly in the SIM tray, insert it into the phone and then turn it on. Then I plugged it into itunes for activation.

Once this was complete I got the awesome "Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked" message!

While you won't get LTE and what not (I don't really care), Straight Talk users can still get the $45 dollars a month service with the iPhone 5.

I have a sprint iphone 5, could i transfer it to straight talk because i am paying $130 for exactly the same perks as at straight talk for $45.

Unlocking AT&T for Straight Talk

Bought an AT&T iphone5 for straight talk. I've cut down the standard sim card with a sim card cutter and that's working great. However, now i'm learning that I DO have to have an unlocked phone for service to work. I read several places before I didn't have to have an unlocked phone, but it's looking like it MUST be unlocked.

If this is true, any suggestions on where to take it? Swiftunlocks.com I'm not seeing iphone 5 for AT&T. And every website wants $75+
