Bummer. I just bought a 2012 dual-core i5 at Micro Center. $550 new at MC, but the Apple refurb. is going for $509. :(

The refurbs are great deals. I have a refurb 2007 iMac that's been up 24x7 since 2007. I upgraded it a couple of years ago (2TB HDD, 4gb mem) and it's still going strong. Not one problem.

That's a smokin' deal!

Agreed. Only 2GB memory, but that's the first thing I'd upgrade myself anyway.

Hmmm... Seriously considering buying that refurb 6630M model. Currently have one and love it. It's a workhorse. Someone take my credit card away

Just bought one of the 2.3 i7s, after hesitating and missing out on two previous occasions. These refurbs are a great deal.

I guess I jumped on the lightly used, stock Apple, 2012 i7, 16 gb, 1TB for $800 a bit too quickly.

That's great if you'd like the better GPU in that older model. The only significant difference I can think of is it has USB 2.0 instead of 3.0, which might be important to some people but not an issue at all to others.

Also the 2012 has the power brick inside the case instead of outside, but that's probably not important to anyone except me.

both the 2011 and the 2012 have internal psu. it is a hard call for some users. as to which is the better piece of gear.

Right now I have a 2012 2.3 quad

I have a 2012 2.5 base

I have a 2010 c2d 2.4 with dvd player.

When I the saw 2011 with the gpu I considered buying it and selling my 2012 base model. I may do so.

My wife's Macbook is on its way out and we're considering replacing it with a Mac Mini. Are Apple's refurbs generally reliable? Can you still purchase AppleCare for them?

yes to reliable yes to applecare. I have a 2010 c2d refurb purchased in aug 2012. I have applecare on it until aug 2015. Most likely it will be one of the last 2010's to be covered by apple care
as apple no longer sells it in the refurb store.

Just checked the Canadian store, and there is a ton of Mini's up there. More choice than I've personally ever seen.
