I've worked quite a bit with Oracle but wanted a personal database system on my home MBP. I found SequalPro which works with MySQL but in order for me to do anything - I first need to run the SQL Server (I currently use MAMP to do this).

Is there no way to keep SQL Server running all the time? Any downsides to this?
Is there no Access alternative (other than OpenOffice, Libreoffice, etc… they are ugly as anything and give too many issues) that would allow me to store data and write SQL query against it? Bento and FM are paid and don't allow SQL as far as I know.
In SQL Pro, I currently put everything in localhost. Any downsides to this? I'm quite new to this so would like all the help (basis or advanced) possible.

Thanks.

Not really sure what you are asking here.

1) I run MAMP (standard) at all times (100% of uptime - even if I'm just reading the forums ) on my macbook pro, two iMacs and mac mini server.
2) I use phpMyAdmin to administrate it.

Not sure what else you would need here.
