Hello,

I'm trying to create a vector based line similar to those on Apple.com where a radial gradient cuts beneath a solid line.

I've tried a radial gradient in Illustrator (CS6) with another line placed on top, but it just doesn't look very good - there's no depth to it.

Any ideas?

Thank you

I replicated the effect by using the pen tool to make a tapered line using the brush stroke command, duplicated the layer, added a drop shadow to the layer underneath, and tweaked it a bit til I got the desired results.

Very close! I think all that needs changing is the darkness by 10% and a very thin line placed directly on top.

Please share how you did it :D

Would a drop shadow in Illustrator work?

Nope because it is radial and not all the way along the line. It is also a gradient.

Here's an updated version. Basically it consists of the thin line, and two lozenges with outer glow inside a clipping mask with a white box over the top to tidy up. I've attached an outline view to show the elements. I can send you the file if it helps?

That looks very good!

How did you create the outer glow if there is no colour on the fill or stroke? Would you mind uploading the file please?

Thanks for your help :)
