If only they could add common sense so easily.

Well said.

I don't mind Apple adding all this in addition...... to make it easier, but why in gods name do they only "roll this out" and not say "oh ok we'll offer IOS apps to download .. We should also include a tag to make it easier which app will have in-app purchase available.

not a year AFTER the app appears.. and not after all these recent cases with parents loosing money... Its can't stop them, but maybe if Apple had added this when the app went up on the store.. the mess wouldn't be soo big.

Child neglect is probably the most widespread epidemic. Just look at all the ****** up adults we have nowadays. Once the children get past the age of 4 and lose their "baby adorableness" so many people are in love with, they just search for a way to keep them quiet or make them "less annoying".

So many people having children they don't actually want, so many people having them out of "obligation" because that's what you're "supposed to do". But guess what, paying for your child's education, and providing food is just not enough. THe most integral and vital part of a person's development is their relationship with their parent in their formative years.

So easy to forget apparently when children start to get their own views on the world and want to share them with the parents right? You know this is a sickness, you know it is widespread. But it's easier to just ignore it isn't it? Or be defensive about it? Hmm..

You know what is even easier? Being a smartass self-righteous prick on the internet. Just because a parent lets a child occasionally play on an iPad does not mean they are neglecting him/her.

More helpful

Apple should be more helpful in providing parenting mechanisms for customers who cannot control their behavior or the behavior of their children.

If Apple cannot do better than this, than in-app purchases should be covered by Obamacare.

Yes. Of course, some people _are_ stupid and give their kids a password and the kids know the credit card. More problematic, once you enter the password (to download a free app), it keeps working for 15 minutes. Which is excellent if you are looking for a dozen songs to download and don't have to enter your password each time, but bad if your kids can buy super power berries for $100 in a game.

An improvement to the password "15 minute" rule would be to allow no purchases more expensive than the original one. So: Free game -> no paid purchases. 99cent game -> no purchases over 99cent. That would stop the worst cases, but you can still download a dozen songs within fifteen minutes.

If you want to download anything being not free, after you download a free app, you are still required to type your password again, within 15 minutes or not. It's been always that way.

I got hit by this when my kid racked up hundreds when buying zoo animals or food for them. Learned my lesson won't happen again

Funny how Apple knows what's good for us when they want to censor pornography and political messages that are even slightly offensive to the status quo, but are more than happy to shove these apps in our faces as long as they're getting a piece of the very sizeable pie.

And what is Tim Cook doing? Giving us a disclosure for something we could have seen already quite easily by scrolling to the bottom of the app description and seeing whether it has a "Top in-app purchases" section.

Apparently there's another British teen that's racked up 5k plus in a game and he's the son of a cop so that cop has reported his son for fraud!

...or it should say "You should play with your kids instead".

No.

Thanks Apple!

This is designed for stupid / ignorant / lawsuit happy people.

For you? ;)

----------

Yes because all parents do is play with their kids, they never need the kids to be quiet for half an hour while you cook dinner etc.

He/She obviously doesn't have kids.

----------

One thing it does is stops me from paying $7 for a game only to find in app purchases.
Look at Horn in the 10 essential games!
