It's April on the International Dateline.


Welcome to Photo of the Day. The POTD thread was started by iGary in May, 2006 and converted to a monthly thread in November 2007 by Arn. POTD is one of the most popular picture groups on MacRumors, often exceeding 500 posts and 20,000 views per month.

Photo of the Day is intended to be a showcase for your best pictures. There is no limit to your gear, just your imagination. P&S and film cameras are welcome along with DSLRs. There are no themes like the Fortnightly Challenge and Weekly Contest, and no winners (or losers) either.



Policies

*One Photo per Day - Don't post more than one photo each day.

*Quote with Thumbnails - When you quote an image please restore it's thumbnail before replying. You can do this either by installing the AutoTIMG browser extension or by editing the code by hand.

*Multi-Quote - To comment on several photos, click the Multi-Quote button. This puts all your comments in one post. Multi-Quoting is required on all of the MacRumors forums.

*SFW (Safe for Work) only - This is a site - wide rule. If you wouldn't show it in a public place, then it's NSFW (not safe for work). Think before you post.

*Describe your photo - Tell what it is and where you took it. If you know the EXIF data of a photo, include it. The following EXIF fields are recommended: Camera, ISO, Focal Length, Shutter/Aperture and Lens.

In continuation of my previous photo last month, I should take this opportunity to warn those travelling to Australia to watch out for "Drop Bears". They are deadly animals specifically targeting tourists, Drop Bear season officially starts in April.

It is very important you read this traveller warning information.

I love April. It's a great month for new beginnings. That's why I've chosen today to introduce my new photographic style. I've come up with a new look that is straight-out-of-camera, and I'm very excited about it. From now on, I'll be working in this style. C&C welcome. :)

Le Parc du Chateau, Nice
There's a hill in Nice, right by the shore, with pathways you can wander and good views over the town and the bay on the way up. This photo was taken near the top. I don't know if it's modern or part of the old ruins.

It's a while since I've posted near the beginning of the month and I noticed the blurb at the top asks for EXIF data if available. I'd forgotten about that so here goes:

Canon 5DII, ISO 100, 1/8@f.5 (-0.67ev) 24-105L@24mm

Hmm… some of the detail on the left seems to have been lost in conversion.

Thanks guys. ijohn, this is at a local beach (Thirroul, NSW) It's a pool pump which draws in salt water, I think those pointy bits are vents.
Most pools around here are tidal rock pools that fill and drain with the tide (I can think of 8 around here), this one is up on the grass, so is cleaner - like a normal pool :)

Nice one P, huge improvement, you are definitely onto something here!!
You seem to tick all the right boxes and follow the correct photographic principals: :D

[√]Nobody needs a tripod
[√]We've got ISO 51200 for that :)
[√]Don't forget to shoot wide open!
[√]The best shots are from moving cars, think of all those shots you'd miss by stopping!
[√]Stylish finger in shot, for that personal 'touch'.
[√]Sensor dust shows you are a pro and change your lenses.
[√]Turn the shadows slider to FULL for MAX dynamic range.
[√]Power lines are a landscape photographer's best friend.

I look forward to seeing more of this stunning work from you :cool: :D :p

Sheesh...whenever I think I'm improving and getting closer to you, you take it two steps further away. I'm not sure which direction I should follow first...the dust bunny style, or the middle finger style. Both are so...so...like, just so...wow!

Allow me to commend you for taking the time to develop your new , bold ,style!! I , for one , was becoming bored with your submissions to this forum . Another perfect landscape!?!? Meh ! What you've posted here is infinitely more cutting edge . You've obviously spent far more time , and expense , achieving this image than any other of your previous posts . Particularly appreciated is the fact that you have chosen to eschew the platitude of 'pleasing background blur ' and , instead , blur out the foreground . The only way this can be done IIRC is with the phenomenally rare Canon 50mm 8.1
( the HEKOB king) , used fully stopped down .
I find great symbolism in the finger facing away from the viewer - rejection of the viewers attitude , possibly? - Who is it facing , and more importantly what finger is it? Inquiring minds want , no demand , to know .
Great job in capturing the earth's curvature and especially in capturing those all too frequently cloned out details in the sky . Weather balloons? Anomalies in the space-time continuum? . No matter , it required boldness to allow them to remain .
Should you choose to sell copies to the masses , might I be so daring as to suggest having prints done on black velvet with flourescent inks?
