True phlebotomy story ...
I was getting blood drawn though I forget the reason why. I've had it done a few time in my life without any problems and am a healthy 52 year-old man in good physical shape.
The phlebotomist tries the left arm and fails to get a vein ... tries again ... fails ... tries again ... fails.
With a growing sense of frustration on both our parts the phlebotomist says, "there seems to be something blocking the needle. I'm just going to have to
jam it up there to get past it."
"Wait a minute," I said, not relishing the idea of having long, sharp needle jammed up my arm, "Why don't you try my right arm instead?"
So she switched to my right arm ... and found the vein the first time.
