Hi,

I'm searching for an app that lets me stream directly from an Airport Extreme drive, without needing iTunes to be open in a desktop/laptop.

Anyone knows such an app?

Thanks.:)

Try filebrowser. I have an external drive hooked up to my time capsule and this lets me pull my movies down and then push them back up to my Apple TV. Best setup ever.

Thanks!

I did check FileBrowser.

I also found a free app called Quick Explorer, which lets me navigate my hard drive and play movies. There is a Pro version which lets you play any format and add more than one source (the free version is limited to just one source).

I'll try the free version for a while.

One question, does FileBrowser let's you play AVI movies?

Thanks. One last question: does it supports airplay in the background?

Quick Explorer supports airplay but not in the background.

It does. That's one of the main reasons that I swear by this setup and app. It drains very little battery life during a 2 hour movie.
