It's incredible that plans in the USA are around $100/month.

Here in france, we have unlimited plans (talk/txt/data) for €20/month. That's UNLIMITED on 3G and now LTE all over the country, great coverage, etc... From ALL carriers!!!

Something's wrong in the US!

That's a understatement!

I was on the AT&T "unlimited" plan for a long time. I really thought they would have to force me off it because I wasn't going to budge. I am on my iPhone 4 a lot with browsing, emails, FB etc. Same with my iPad. However I also try to hookup to a WiFi source wherever I could. That being said, I did a 6 month data analysis for the three devices on my plan. Monthly average; 1.15 gb. I was paying about $220/mo. I went to the dark side and went with the 6gb data share plan. Even with 4g (no LTE yet, some decade) I don't think I will break 2. I am now at $170 out the door. $50/mo savings. It is true, every man has his price.

this is what I'm talking about.

The US is huge compared to France. You don't need as many towers or personnel. Same as Japan - internet everywhere, because they're tiny.

Was just in Paris - loved it.

Simple logic is ignored when there is an opportunity to take a cheap shot at the US. Perhaps it is time for a second World Apology Tour.

what in the hell?

the US is huge. Takes a lot more towers spread across barren areas just to got coverage. Density and smaller size of a country helps immensely.

I am agreeing with you, w/o resorting to juvenile profanity, too.

My comment was directed towards the ignorant Europeans where some countries are no bigger than some counties in the US. Plus, I wont switch to socialism just to get a lower cell bill.

I was more responding to the ridiculous "world apology tour" comment, but I agree with the size comment. you're worried about "hell" as "juvenile profanity"? methinks you're a bit sensitive.

anyway, moving on.

What speed will they throttle it to after 5 GB of LTE data? Will it just switch to regular 3G speed (which in most places their network is so saturated and slow it's "throttled" by default..)

I can't quote numbers, but my account has been throttled twice in the last 6 months, when my daughter went over the 5 gb cap. (Yes, they throttled all three of my phones for her usage)
But sufice it to say, that if you click on a link in a website, you see a blue bar moving pixel by pixel across the top of the browser. It does NOT seem like it is moving. The website may time out before one connects and sees any results. It is maddening. I just give up, close the browser and text ugly threats to my lovely daughter.
Speed is restored at the beginning of the next billing cycle.

Bad Bad Att

I can't believe people are ok with this change! I actually only noticed that this is happening and called att and they told me we were notified by a text message back in 2000 something. A text message??? How is it ok for companies to reduce the service they provide expecting us to same money??? To me its complete bs. It was obvious that they have been trying to get rid of unlimited data customers by trying to trick us into signing up for a new plan with oh, so little side note that it won't be unlimited anymore. And now they are telling me I signed up for it because I signed the contract last year when I changed to my new phone. I definitely demanded to keep my old plan. I am so freaking annoyed and angry. The last thing I wanted was to having to monitor how much data I had, thats why I always wanted to keep my unlimited data. Having a throttling internet is almost worst than having none. Really you want to smash the phone. Oh an wouldn't Att love you to do that!!! Greedy Corporations!:mad::mad::mad:
