I'll be buying a mid-level Mini with the 2.6ghz upgrade in the next few days.

I was wondering where I could find a complete list of the display resolutions supported by the Intel HD 4000 graphics.

One monitor I'm considering is this new model by Dell:

It has an IPS matte display, wide gamut graphics, and USB3 connection ports.
BUT -- it also has an unusual optimum resolution: 2560 x 1080 at 60 Hz

So... I'm wondering if the Mini will support it properly. I plan to connect via the Mini's mini-displayport (Thunderbolt) connector (NOT through HDMI).

Does a complete list of what resolutions the Mini will support exist?

Nice monitor, looks like a good compromise for dual-display-like workspace with less room on the desk.

I would expect it to work, I don't think there is a pre-set specific combo of resolutions that a computer will push out through DP. There's a maximum overall bandwidth of 17.28Gb/s; the actual max resolution will depend on color depth and frame rate but the Mini will definitely support higher resolution than that at full color & frame rate so it should work fine.

I have wondered the same thing. If you could only have 1 monitor, the ultra wide looks like it would be cool. I believe LG and Philips are making monitors with the same panel.

Mac mini and ultra wide monitors

Hi I recently purchased a dell 29 inch ultra wide for my Mac mini. It dose work to get max resolution you have to use display port (thunderbolt) to display port or mini display port on the monitor. If you use hdmi you don't get full resolution nor do you get max resolution if you use a display port to dvi adaptor. The downside of using the monitors display port it won't play HD movies that will only work via hdmi or dvi then they look over stretched hope this helps

I checked an Intel [HD4000] support page and found this:

"Intel graphics drivers support a wide range of resolutions but the maximum amount will depend on many factors including but not limited to:

The chipset or processor in your system
Which display port you are using
How your computer manufacturer has configured your computer
Your display or monitor capabilities
If your display or monitor is plug and play
If your display or monitor is in single mode, clone, or extended desktop mode.
Check with your computer and display manufacturers to find out the maximum resolution for the computer and display.

If you are using multiple displays in clone or duplicate mode, you can only select a resolution that is supported by all displays."

A friend has the Dell 29" display and it works with his 2012 Mini.

2012 Mac Mini & 4K

If apple releases a new 4k (3840x2160) thunderbolt display, the new mac mini (haswell) would probably work cos it would prob have thunderbolt 1.2

But the question im asking is would the 2012 mac mini (hd4000) be able to drive this monitor?

currently (I think) the mac mini can drive 2x30 inch dell 2560x1600 monitors using daisy chain feature of the monitor U3014

2x2560x1600=8192000 pixels
3840x2160=8294400 pixels
difference=102400 pixels=320x320

so the difference is pretty much a screen with res 320x320, so im wondering could apple through software optimisation be able to do this?

or maybe one could purchase the more expensive fibre optic thunderbolt cables vs the copper cable for more throughput with existing thunderbolt 1.1

There is no such thing as thunderbolt 1.1 or 1.2

There is thunderbolt 1 and 2

TB 1 supports display port up to 1.1a
TB 2 supports display port 1.2 and provides the bandwidth for 4k resolutions. The 2012 mini has thunderbolt 1 and does not support 4k resolutions. It can handle up to 2560x1600 via the TB port and up to 1920x1200 via HDMI.

How good is the current Mini in setting up custom frequencies? Can you set the refresh to 23.976 for films? Or does the HD4000 has problems with that.
