As for the D3100 versus the D3200, I looked at a DP Review side-by-side comparison and 2 things jumped out at me. The megapixel difference and the video differences. Then again, I'm still using a Nikon D200 that is over 7 years old so I do get good use out of my camera gear.

Yes, I've noticed the big jump in pixels and video between the two. I'm nervous about buying something and then quickly outgrowing it. I guess it's because I like value for money! Better to spend extra now, but then not have to upgrade as quickly maybe?
If I go with the D3200 the extra Lens seems like a no brainer to me for that price.

So today the pro photographer is back at work. I show him the deal above and he says he'll have a look at it. He tells me the 200mm lens is the older type without image stabilisation. Is this going to be a big problem? It's only £50 more.
Also I found the same deal at this online reseller. Has anybody heard/used them? They are giving away a starter kit as well which might not be worth what they say, but looks like a good deal to me.

Image stabilization can be useful for that kind of telephoto lens, it lets you shoot at lower shutter speeds (or in less light is another way to look at it). His comment was probably due to the fact that there is a stabilized version of this lens. For 50£ I think it's a good deal. Mind you, would you use a telephoto lens? I'd personally much rather get the camera with the 35mm f/1.8 lens if such a deal exists (even if I'd rarely use it, I think it's still get the tele, to be honest).

As for D3200 vs D3100, it seems like the D3200 will be comparable to cameras that will come out in the next couple of years where as the D3100 seems to be behind a bit. Wether that really matters is another thing...

So this site is not recommended. Obviously they are grey imports (which I don't really have a problem with), but they also only put the VAT on at the check out stage. Found this out on this Photography forum http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=384887 So by the time you put the 20% on, not such a great deal. Looks like a trip to PC world after payday on Friday then!

If you are in London, I can recommend Camera World that is just off Oxford Street. If you are near Norwich or don't mind online stuff then I would recommend Wex. Both of them are good and you won't get a grey import. They should be cheaper than PC World. I have used both of them to buy cameras and they are great. I bought my first digital compact from Camera World. I was listening to customers and someone else talked about bracketing. I asked if I needed bracketing and the advisor asked me if I knew what it was. When I said no he told me that I didn't need it yet. One year later I went in and looked at the upgrade, not to buy I was just being nosy, and the man behind the counter said that it wasn't worth me upgrading for what I would gain. Both Wex and Camera World are camera specialists and will give you good advice.:D

Thanks for the advice. I am based in Birmingham, and the only shop I'm aware of is Calumet round here. I'm still thinking about that two lens deal from above that looks cheaper than anything else I have seen offered at a proper camera shop. Ideally I would rather go to a proper shop, but the PC world is about 5 minutes from where I live.

So I finally bit the bullet and picked up my D3200 today. I went with the 18-55mm VR lens as the two lens kit I was eyeing up were both standard lenses. Due to my other interest of Formula 1 and the british Grand Prix, I've not had much time to play. I did get out in the garden this afternoon and had a play though. I've got a lot to learn, so if you see me posting any shots please go easy on the critiques! Thanks for all the advice and I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions if you are willing.

Congratulations! You will really enjoy your Nikon - I certainly do my various bodies, but even more, the lenses. That sucking sound, which becomes louder the more deeply you get into photography, is the cash being removed from your wallet to support your habit. :D

All kidding aside, you'll have a great time. It's amazing how three simple things: shutter speed, aperture size, and ISO provide endless visual interest and a lifetime of learning.

Which DSLR provides better video capture and control: Canon t5i or Nikon d7100?

I was told to look at getting a Canon t5i for videography, but some reviews say the Nikon 5200 and 7100 are better? I need straight facts ASAP because my intro to photography class requires me to have a camera by next Wednesday! Thanks for the help!
