I am getting a MacBook Air 2013 11" for School. I plan to use Microsoft office and play a few games like Minecraft and GMOD. I plan to keep this computer for 4-60 years. I am using the school discount so the ram is $90. Which amount of ram would be better for me? Thanks :)

Especially if you plan to keep it for 4 years, 8GB is a no brainer

Don't try and rationalize and justify 4GB by saying "Mac uses less memory, especially with mavericks".
4GB in 2013 is ridiculous. Most $399 PCs have 6GB

Thanks. I think I will just invest an extra $90 for that

While I agree he should get 8GB of RAM, I sell PC's and can assure you that most $399 PC's have 4GB, and probably not a single one has 6GB; The price wall where 6GB becomes standard is about 549-599. Of course, this is US dollars.

I sell them too and yes you are right. $499 is more correct for my example but the point still stands :)

About $20 a year is a very small price to pay for not having to worry about making a mistake or being caught unprepared if your needs change.

There are no circumstances under which having 8 GB is ever worse than having 4.
