Apple Seeds OS X 10.8.5 Build 12F23 to Developers

Apple today seeded build 12F23 of OS X 10.8.5 to developers, offering a fifth version of the next Mac operating system update for testing. The release comes one week after the appearance of the previous beta of OS X 10.8.5, build 12F20.

As with previous betas, the update comes with no known issues and can be downloaded via Apple's Developer Page or through the software update tool in the Mac App Store.

Testing on OS X 10.8.5 comes as Apple is also continuing work on its next major version of OS X, Mavericks. Apple has already seeded three developer previews of OS X Mavericks and has announced that it will launch the new operating system to the public this fall.

I guess this will be the last update for Mountain Lion, good.

Since Snow Leopard I think OS X is not that at it's best, hopefully Mavericks will be more like Snow Leopard performance wise.

Hopefully if this is the last version of 10.8 they release all of the new hardware BEFORE this so I don't have to support yet another OS so soon... BRING ON THE HASWELL HARDWARE!

How about that audio glitch or stutter dat happens at random moments? I can't replicate it making it even more annoying.

What makes you say that? Granted these aren't the days where we'd see 10.x.13, but I don't see why anything would prove us failing to see 10.8.6 in the future.

Always look at previous history, almost after every new 10.X release, the previous 10.X.X is the last one and there are no future updates.

But with 10.8.4 we have come to a point quite near the SL performance. At least for me ML runs smooth - with a whole bunch of additional features that should be considered.

Really, I don't think it's quite there, better than Lion, but not as good as Snow Leopard.

That makes sense, It always seemed to me as if they usually had one point update after the next one was released, but this certainly proves me wrong.

Just like Snow Leopard; no new features (or just a few), but a lot of improvements you won't see, but definitely will FEEL!

Mavericks will be the best release since SL!

The biggest problem I have with ML on my new iMac is network drives being dropped when I wake it up from deep sleep, and the only fix often was a restart. Its got so bad I just leave the iMac on 24/7, with the screen going off after about 30 minutes.

Really hope the next OS X can fix that or maybe this minor update.

I sure hope you are right, though I'd like to see some minor improvements in various areas. I don't need HUGE software upgrades, but there are many minor things which would make OSX better

I love how people don't remember anymore how buggy and graphically slow Snow Leopard was until 10.6.4 or 10.6.5...

If you want refinement of stability, yearly major releases of an OS are not what you're looking for.

Can't wait to be rid of the Lion's

Lion (skipped), and ML both suck.

Mavericks I hope will be like more on the stability of SL.
Without rambling on what everyone has issues on (I have at least 5 ongoing), my iMessages are still out of order to this day. To fix? re-launch program.

But in most cases that last release is very close to the release of the next major version, sometimes even after. At this point there's no way to tell, they could release 10.8.5 in a week or two then work on 10.8.6 until september when 10.9 ships (that would give them around two months, maybe more). Or they could keep working on .5 for a couple months and release that around the time we see 10.9.

We just don't know. People said that .3 and .4 would be the last version. With .5 it's more likely but I still think there's a decent chance we see yet another.
