Apple has posted a notice on its System Status page that some iTunes Store users "may be unable to make purchases". The company has not provided any further details, nor an estimate for when it will be repaired.

No other Apple services are currently affected, however.

Update: Apple is now reporting that the outages have extended to the App Store, Mac App Store, and iBookstore, as well as iTunes Match, iTunes in the Cloud, and iCloud Backup. The company has yet to list a percentage of users affected by the issues, but based on reports it appears to be fairly substantial.

Update 2: Apple is now reporting that all services are back online as of 10:54 AM Pacific Time.

Update 3 - 11:31AM PDT: Though previously affected services are back on line, Apple is now reporting that some users may be unable to use FaceTime.

Update 4: Apple is now reporting that all services are back online as of 4:00PM PDT.

Apple sent an email this morning stating they would be doing maintenance today. I deleted it, otherwise I would post a screen grab.

I cannot download apps already purchased, cannot access my account and can't even download free apps.

Why would it be any easier to download a free app than a paid one? They're coming from the same place.

Couldn't create a new Apple ID today.
Tried about an hour ago.
Didn't work on either iOS (for iCloud) or in iTunes/Mac.

I didn't get a message and I have a number of apple ids.
Just a message for our overlords would be nice.

At first I thought I forgot my password (again). But then it was taking awhile to figure out what it wanted to do. Does anyone know how long it will be down?

I had a terrible time trying to update 3 iOS apps, but they finally updated. I also tried to buy an app from the Mac App Store, but had no luck.

Am trying to download xcode on a fresh build machine but can't get it :-(

Come on Apple, this isn't like you!

"It just works" might soon not be yours to promote!
