Apple Seeds OS X 10.8.5 Build 12F33 to Developers

Apple today seeded build 12F33 of OS X 10.8.5 to developers, marking the eighth beta iteration of 10.8.5. The release comes exactly one week after the previous OS X 10.8.5 beta, build 12F30.

As with previous betas, the update contains no known issues and can be downloaded via Apple's Developer page or through the software update tool of the Mac App Store.

Apple's OS X 10.8.5 beta is being tested alongside the next version of the operating system, OS X Mavericks. Apple has thus far seeded five developer previews of Mavericks and plans to offer the new operating system to the public in the fall.

No reason to do that, they'll release it when it's ready. And if 10.8.5 is fairly soon we may see a .6.

I'm not asking to rush it. Just kinda odd it is requiring so many developer releases. I would rather have it done correctly than rushed though.

I doubt we'll see a 10.8.6. Well, we may just not before 10.9 is released.

I just completely gave up 10.8.x .... Mavericks is much ..much better! And, yes I'm a paid developer so it isn't bootleg :)

- Scrolling on HD4000 is far superior, given the allocated memory has been increased to 1024 MB. My point of reference is the verge, and resizing the App Store.

- Battery life is a bit [ ~ 1 hr ] better. YMMV on this.

- Inclusion of iBooks [ in the latest build OS X 10.9 (13A538g) aka DP 5 ]

- Shut down issue is *somewhat* fixed. Shut down is now faster than on 10.8.x

- Tabs in Finder is much better than opening multiple Finder windows.

That's all I can recall right off...

I'm getting what seems to be 20% better battery life on a four year old 2009 15" C2D MBP. Shutdown is still slow compared to Lion but you are right it is better than with Mountain Lion. I'm not running it on a rMBP. Hopefully only one or two more Developer Previews :)

That's great news, especially on a 2009 model year!

Shutdown is erratic i.e sometimes it's almost instant like a flash, while other times it takes ~ 10-15, high of 20 seconds which is still better than 10.8.x with ~ 25-30 and sometimes up to 45 seconds!

Yes, I was very pleasantly surprised about the battery life and that started with DP1.

You are so right about the shutdown times being inconsistent. At one point with DP3 I thought it was completely fixed but then it was back up to 15 or so seconds. But it's always better than Mountain Lion.

I hope they fix that - if not with with this update then at least with Mavericks.
As an observation I might that in my case the shut down on ML is longer if I had been connected to a server (Time Capsule) either manually or via Time Machine back up. In that case, even after umounting the TC the shut down takes forever. Without that the shut down is fairly instant in 90% of the cases. Don't know if that's a universal rule or just my individual experience though.

I'm still using Mountain Lion (waiting for time to actually install Mavericks), and my system has allocated about 1.5GB for the integrated GPU. Scrolling is super-smooth just about everywhere. This is on a 2.3GHz Mac mini. But the power consumption may very well be better on 10.9 :)

You think this is long, before 10.7 developers were required to download beta's every 1-2 weeks, burn the image to a DVD (or USB drive if you could), then perform a clean install, usually for 1 ½ years.

Many believe that was a better system as clean installs were less prone to third party plugins and apps that many install, allowing proper debugging and diagnostics. This system also helped to ensure everyone was running the same system as updates over updates in conjunction with app development and other applications might effect updates and system performance.

Issues installing latest OS X DP... :/

I'm having issues updating to the latest OS X DP 5. I run a 20.5" iMac mid 2007. With DP 4 I faced no issues but now, after downloading the update from the app store it only restarts and no changes are applied, it continues to show in the available updates list. Any help? Please... :confused:

Installed Combo 10.8.5 12F33. Tested no previous builds.
Macbook Air mid 2012.
I notice a "inside" hollow sound when playing.:mad:
Back to 10.8.4. Sound ok now.

Firmware updates usually come before OSX updates. Airport Base and Time Capsule received updates yesterday. Today there wasn't any beta coming out. I'd say it's pretty close.. Wouldn't be surprised to see it come out tomorrow.
