Do you think Apple will continue to sell the iPhone 5 after the release of 5s?

Why wouldn't they? You can still buy the 3GS if I'm not mistaken..

Yup. In Australia most phone shops sell the 4s & 5. So I'd imagine this will continue for a while after the 5C & 5S are released. It means Apple really need to get their pricing right, as it could get a bit confusing with 4 models, 3 of them potentially similarly in specifications.

No, unless the 5C is only for some markets like China. I mean why go to the trouble to put it in a new packaging when you could keep pumping out the iPhone 5 without any redesign and sell it for $99?

I'm guessing the 5C will be the $0 and $99 contract phone in the U.S., varying on probably storage options. Then the 5S starts at $199.

One caveat is if this is true, Apple will obviously unload all of the existing iPhone 5 models. I mean duh.

Personally I think the poll options are inaccurate.

The 5S replaces the 5 as the high end offering.

The 5C replaces the 4 series as the budget model.

The 5 is offski.

Older models will only continue to be sold until retail stocks run out.

If you had asked me two weeks ago, I would have said no, however many leaks from carriers now seem to show that the 16GB model will be sticking around.

So, if we're talking contract price, I'd guess:

5C 16 GB - $0
5 16 GB - $99

Then either 32/64(/128) or 16/32/64 5Ses to slot in at current iP5 prices.

My thoughts as well. I had felt that we'd get only the 5S and 5C, but I think the 5 will stick around as a $99 on contract 16GB model (maybe $550 unsubsidized?). 5S 32GB and up, and maybe the 5C at 8GB free on contract or $400-450 unsubsidized.

Here is my thought plan on the 5,5C and 5S

iPhone 5C in place for the iPhone 4 and 4S with a 8GB storage with happy trippy colour plastic casing options

iPhone 5 Stays in line with 16GB and black/white

and the iPhone 5S comes with more color options and starts at 32GB with a 64GB and 128GB option.

This eliminates the whole assembly line of 3,5" panels and 30 pens dock connectors for the iPhones (which is about 75% of the production lines for the iPhone) only device left with a 30 pens connector is a iPod classic which im guessing is fased out in oktober or gets a refresh with a new design/connector.

Pricing without contracts i think this:

iphone 5C 349-449 pricepoint
iphone 5 549
iphone 5S starting at 649 increasing 100 with each step of storage so 749 for 64gb and 849 for the 128gb

pricings are in euro's :p

It could go either way. I voted no but my two guesses:

5S: $649/$199
5C 32GB: $549/$99
5C 8GB: $449/$0

or same prices but make the 5C 16GB and replace the 32GB 5C with a 16GB 5. From a manufacturing and distribution standpoint it would just seem easier and more cost effective to only build two models.

Because the 5C is basically going to be the iPhone 5 with a cheaper plastic shell. If you want a premium iPhone experience then you'll have to pay for the current flagship device from now on. I think it makes perfect sense to kill the iPhone 5.

I highly doubt it. If the 5S looks the same, more or less, as the 5, and the 5C is basically a 5 in a different shell, they'll definitely kill the 5. If people want the same specs, they'll buy the new 5C, if they want the design and/or high end they'll trade up to the 5S.

Plus, you'll get the people who will hold the 5S & the 5 side by side and conclude "aww it's practically the same phone, and the 5 is cheaper". Apple could rip out the entire innards and replace them with a machine that bends time & space itself, but if it looks the same on the outside, people uneducated on the matter assume very little has changed.

If I were Apple, I'd discontinue the 5 simply to stop it cannibalising 5S sales.

Yeah, they probably will. I think the iPhone 5C was introduced to replace the iPhone 4S. They're obviously trying to get rid of the smaller screens and 30 pin connector.

The iPhone 5 16gb will be $100 on contract, and the iPhone 5C 16gb will probably be free on contract.

There wont be an iPhone 5c, or any cheap thing.
There will be an iPhone 5s, with upgraded internals and they will sell the iPhone 4s for 0$ on contract, the 5 for 100$ and the 5s for 200$.
Period.

The questions will be answered on 9-10. No one knows for sure until then, but if I was betting I'd say they will discontinue it. They will probably discontinue the 4/4S/5.

The answer as to why is easy... If there is a 5C with the internals of the iPhone 5 then there is no need for the 5. If the 5C is the 5 with a plastic shell then Apple will not keep the 5 for people to choose. For a number of reasons. Plastic means higher profit margins. If they sale the 5C with the 5's internals then they will make more money per device. If they keep the 5 Apple will be giving people a choice between basically the same phone internally. I don't see how that's good for business.

Remember at the Q3 they announced that they shipped the most iPhones ever in that quarter, but profit margins were lower year to year. Because all three devices were once "flagship" devices. Therefore it costs more to make. So it only makes sense to have one flagship and one lower cost version which is actually lower cost for them and us.

I would be willing to bet they discontinue all 3 current devices and work on getting rid of all the stock of them by the end of the year. Hell Wal-Mart already selling the iPhone 5 for $98.00 on contract... So $100 on contract for the next year isn't a deal on the iPhone 5 when you can get it for less than that right now less then a year after its release. I know there's people that says Apple keeps all products for at least 2 years, but what about iPad 3? I think the iPhone 5 may be the first iPhone that suffers this fate as well.
