So what I am saying is, if not video capable there is no logical reason to raise the bar to 80gbs for iPod. But if it's gonna be showing videos on-the-go, then I could carry some divxs and stuff, and then 80gbs iPod is meaningful..
iGuy said:My issue is that I have a large library of legally purchased DVDs and want to be able to view them on my PSP.
I've tried a number of software applications for the PSP including PSPware.
Fisrt I have to RIP the DVDs to get VOB files. Not that big a deal. I use MacTheRipper and it works just fine. I can view these files in the Quicktime Player without any issues.
However when I use software such as PSPware to format the movie for the PSP, I loose audio/video sync. After the first chapter the audio lags the video by approximately 30 seconds.
I still haven't found a reliable way to view my existing DVD library on my PSP. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them.
So I agree with Apple. Until they can provide a simple and legal way for me to view my exisitng DVD library on a portable device, there really isn't much point in making a video iPod.
I may be in the minority so please don't flame me if you disagree. Also note that I do own a Canon XL1 and could make and view my own videos on the PSP but that's not really what I want it for. I want to view my extensive DVD library on it.

Perhaps they are eliminating the Powerbook ... combining it with the iPod ... and introducing the new PowerPod. High speed wireless WiMax internet, 1,000,000+ songs in your pocket (new compression format ... AAC compact plus enhanced ultra), HD video capable 3" screen, voice activated, no keyboard, mouse, click or scroll wheel required, 4.5 GHz processor, plutonium design case, 200GB micromemory, still fits in your pocket (albeit not your watch pocket), and all for about $299. Comes with optional Red Velvet PowerPod Cloak. Then EVERYONE will be satisfied ... at least until after the announcement is done.berkleeboy210 said:Speed bumps to the PowerBooks, Powermacs and a 80gb drive in the iPod, requires a whole media event?
I think not.........................
gotta be something more than that.
The 80GB iPod is useful for a few types of users:KA2357 said:I have to agree that there would be a seemingly much smaller market for an 80GB iPod. My iTunes music collection is roughly 1900 songs, a little over 16GB (mostly stored as 256kbps AAC)... so I certainly wouldn't have the need for an 80-gig iPod.

As I have posted on other threads --- I have a feeling the curtin is important --- there have been rumors for a few years in home theather mags and other places that Apple is working on a set top/tv tuner/mac-mini/home theather/projector/etc. device --- maybe this "one more thing" is video something but not ipodDigipimp said:Is everyone still forgetting the damn red movie curtain and no updates to the videos on iTunes? There has to be something movie related or video related whether it's an iPod, or some new feature or something on the iTunes store. And the invite indicates it's something special you would think, he never says that catch phrase unless he's showing something to wow you.
I know someone who has tens of thousands legal songs (he's a DJ) on multiple drives, I would probably have 10,000-20,000 myself if I converted all of my CDs to MP3 or AAC formats, but I do it only as I want them. I do agree, though, that I can't possibly imagine anyone who could possibly want, or need, anywhere near that many songs "in their pocket" at any one time. As for 25,000+ photos ... even a photographer might have a hard time with it. How do you sort through 25,000+ 2-3" photos ... in thumbnail format 25 up? You'd still have a thousand screens to go through ... and 2" photos become .4" photos. (Please forgive my ignorance if I am unaware of how the iPod photos work, but I have not seen one live.)KA2357 said:I have to agree that there would be a seemingly much smaller market for an 80GB iPod. Apple Insider and Think Secret are all wrong. I can confirm 100% for you.
1.There is NO and I can confirm NO Powerbook or Powermac updates.
2.There is NO iPod video OR 5G iPod appearing.
3.No Airport express with video out.
The product is the unveiling of Apple's new internet tablet (whatever they call it I don't know). While us developers at Nokia have been hard at work on the 770 we have as developers seen Apple's device from their developers. Nokia has officially delayed our product the 770 to see the final offering from Apple and to make adjustments if need be. (i.e boost our performance with more ram on shipping so I am told and finish the touches on our software to support the bluetooth keyboard officially)
The Apple device itself will sport a 800x600 screen size (similar to ours) and will contain WIFI. It will have bluetooth to work with their cordless bluetooth keyboard and mouse (one up on our 770 internet tablet the mouse that is). The OS is a VERY stripped down version of OSX. Safari,Mail,iCal,iTunes, and iChat. These will be like widgets which is a good idea kinda like our hildon widgets.
It is a very good screen (same screen?). It is also a touch screen. It is not very big in size. It has NO HARDDRIVE but uses NAND flash memory. I think 512mb built in or other.
It has its own dock and lasts up to 4 hours on a charge. In comparison our 770 lasts 3. But Apple is known for overstating battery life.
We at Nokia await to see the new product. Apple will help us to make the internet tablet popular and sell in Europe with Nokia's offering.
Mod_Edit said:When has this EVER been a HUUUUUUUUUGE event? It's only been blown WAY out of proportion cuz of all the vPod Madness. It's a big event because it probably *will* be the last great PPC update for pb's and maybe pm's. That's certainly enough, in my opinion, to make it sorta hoohaa.
I might be there with you if my 5300ce case hadn't cracked, screen came apart, etc. Took a year to get that one resolved. Still presently content with my 500MHz Titanium, and I work in an industry where much more would be much better. Oh well, till I see something I really like (don't like the aluminum books), I'll just plug along (and use the more powerful computers at work).Chundles said:Pfft, not PCI-e, not worth my time.
I've been waiting 5 years for a good update to the PowerBook but there never seems to be one. Everytime they update them I come on here to see if they're good or not and from what people are saying, they aren't - so the wait goes on and I plug away on my 5300.
nice one PEACE.Peace said:Well now.Since your a developer at Nokia you really wouldn't know if there were "no powerbooks" now would you ?![]()
