I have 3 air 13 inch models and the 15 2012 retina and I LOVE the retina but I love the thin and light ability the air offers.

Anyone else in my situation and what did you do?

I use it for business in terms of internet, pics, iPhoto, and I carry it in my backpack from home to office.

You could go with the 13-inch Retina MBP. Perfect mix.

I just got my mid-2010 Air repaired due to a damaged screen. I haven't touch it since I bought my 15" retina 10 months ago. I don't care what people say to try to convince themselves that the Retina Display is not a necessity. Resolution aside, the Retina is simple much more comfortable to look at. The whites on TN panels are harsh.

Don't get the retina if those are your main uses. I got one and I ended up selling it and I'm picking up the 2013 air tommorow. The retina battery is pretty mediocre (expect anywhere from 3-6 hours depending on use) and the main selling point of of the 2013 air is the battery. Check out the battery tests done by anandtech to see what I mean http://www.anandtech.com/show/7085/the-2013-macbook-air-review-13inch/6 . That said, if you couldn't care less about the battery life go for the retina.

When you are comparing these two think about what you want, Portability + Battery vs Power + Retina display.

I have both the air 13" 13" retina and 15" retina all 2013. My 15" is my real estate queen, my 13" retina I like due to the size, but it struggles with to power the screen. My 13" I have owned 2 weeks now and have only had to charge 3 times so far. I love the battery life on this thing.

I actually had a 2012 loaded 13 air sold it bought a 13 retina which I just sold 2 days back and picked up the 13 air. I do like the portability. God they need a retina air I would buy it first day.
