At the Keynote Tim said that iWork, Gargeband.... will be free for every new Mac and iOs device.

I've gotta assume these will be free for recent purchases. Now, will they credit recent purchases for iWork programs? I just purchased a 23" for my mother and got Pages and Numbers. It'll be interesting to see...

I'm intrigued to see how this shakes out. I have an iMac on order that should be available for pickup at my local Apple store late this week. Will it comes with OSX 10.8 or 10.9? Will it automatically recognize iWork and iLife for free? Only time will tell...

Apparently one is eligible for purchases made after October 1, 2013.

So, that kinda sucks. I'm hoping someone at Apple can sort something out for me. I'm in the process of trying... :)

Well if that's true, that sucks. Obviously my new iMac (purchased September 29th) has GarageBand, but I just spent £42 on Pages, Numbers & Keynote! :(

Okay. Thanks very much for this information. I bought my 2013 iMac on the 8th October, so it sounds like I could be in luck! :)

You should be fine! However - I just got off the phone with support, and they told me to update to Mavericks, and then the purchases should show up in the App store.

So... Who knows. Sounds a bit weird to me! I'm creating the USB install media for 10.9 right now, going to do a clean install, then we'll see. I'll post results here.

Aha, here's the relevant information (scroll all the way to the bottom):

http://www.apple.com/creativity-apps/mac/

"Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are free on the Mac App Store for qualifying Mac computers purchased on or after October 1, 2013. OS X Mavericks required. Downloading apps requires an Apple ID."

Given that the new iMacs were released just six days earlier on Sep 24, I do find it a bit odd that they chose the Oct 1 cutoff. My invoice is dated Sep 30 and it was delivered Oct 1. Ah well, but its nice that Mavericks is a free upgrade.

This is most unfortunate!

I too, purchased my late 2013 iMac on September 29th, 2013. Is there anyone to complain to?

I ordered the iMac on 27 of sectember, BUT Apple prepared it to send me on the 3 of october. The invoice's date is 03.10.2013, and I received it te 9 of october.
Do you think could have the software free?
I hope so, I've bought a very expensive machine!

October 1st purchase

I purchased mine on October 1st and all I see is the option to purchase them. I contacted Apple support and they told me I have to purchase them as well since I fell after the deadline, which doesn't make sense.

OK, I installed Mavericks (clean install) per Apple's suggestion, and the iWork programs still appear to cost $19.99 on the App Store.

I've left a message with Apple for a callback...

So far the Applecare reps I've talked to don't have any idea about the promotion. I directed them to the website and they see it but they don't know yet how to offer it. Kind've frustrating if you ask me. Hopefully they fix it.

I'm currently chatting with them now and they have no idea. I just purchased my iMac 27 last night.

Chatting did nothing for me. I'm on the phone again and this time they've got me working with a senior applecare rep and we're on a conference with a specialist for the mac app store. they are puzzled as to why its not showing up for free.

You are correct, they are puzzled about this. I will try to call them maybe later today.

They've given me their email/phone numbers for the engineers responsible for the mac app store and I've talked on a conference with about 5 of them. They are vowing to fix this quickly. I love Apple Support, they always go above and beyond to help out.

An update

Just got off the phone with Applecare, they called me back. What they are going to do is have an up to date program where we sign up and they give us the codes we need to download our programs. They said it should be live in a day or two

I literally just purchased my first Imac, and the customer service person did tell me the software would be free but could not tell me what would be pre-installed.

Maybe this can help:

Just talked to Apple Support...

You need to "apply" for the up-to-date program.

https://uptodate.apple.com/welcome?locale=en_US

Just gave this a go.

My situation is somewhat unique. I originally ordered on 9/24 and received the computer on 10/2. It ended up having an issue and basically an exchange was arranged on 10/6. The new iMac shipped out 10/12 and was delivered on 10/15.

I know its a gray area and can go either way. I really don't want to dip into my just-created-yesterday iPad savings of a whopping $100 to pay for these apps. Free is way nicer!
