hello, I have a white imac 2006 model 2.16ghz intel core 2 duo, 3gb of ram. currently running 10.7.5. would it be able to run 10.8 at all? I would ask about mavericks but I think I better not push my luck.

Well, it's finally official from Wayne himself:
  • there will be no MVPF support for GMA950 systems
  • MVPF support for GMA X3100 systems will remain buggy (so not worth it in my opinion - can't imagine anyone seriously running 10.9 on X3100 for the sake of it)
  • MVPF will support ATI X1600 models (and that's pretty much about it)

He said GMA X3100 is buggy ATM. not that will remain buggy. very misleading "quote" by you since X3100 on MLPF is not buggy at all.
In fact X3100 is even faster in ML than it was in Lion. :rolleyes:

X3100 graphics will remain buggy in MVPF since they're using those unofficial buggy 64bit X3100 kexts from pre-release 10.6.2 and no other kexts exist!

If you knew a little about MVPF and MLPF, you would know that MLPF runs in 32bit kernel mode (it's based on 32bit DP1 ML kernel) and uses 32bits X3100 kexts from Lion 10.7.5. Hence no issues, since those kexts were totally official and legit'.

By now you should know that it's a totally different story with Mavericks, but you don't really know what you're talking about unfortunately. Some people get so desperate to believe Mavericks will run on their old system that they become blind to reality...

I'm not trying to pretend I own truth or speak as God, but one has to consider the facts: the technical ones, the absolute lack of successful installation reports and, finally, the words of whom-many-consider-as-God himself on this matter ("[...] X3100 works but its buggy. [...]"). No-one's got to believe me of course, but once you put 2 and 2 together in the present case, it still does not make 5.

Chrome and SMB issues

I have successfully used MLPostFactor to install OSX 10.8.4 on an early 2008 white Macbook, with Intel GMA X3100 graphics adapter. What an awesome resource this is hackerwayne and thank you for the awesome work of art! I am trying to run 10.8.4 with MLPostFactor 0.3, and I saw a post where 0.3.1 is available and I am wondering, is this version 0.3.1 available for download? I am having 2 major issues. Once these are resolved I will have a reliable system.

The 2 main issues I'm having with MLPostFactor 0.3 and ML OSX 10.8.4 are with chrome. I cannot open a tab and the error reports are complaining about the video interface, and chrome gets a SIGBUS. The other issue I am having is with SMB share-name access. SMB is unable to authenticate and a basic command line SMB browse is not even possible. I can mount my NAS via NFS via its IP address without a problem.

Please be so kind next time and read at least the recent 10-20 posts or search through the thread by googling for '"exact thread title" yourKeyword'. Then you will stumble across hints such as this one:

Hopefully of help to you. Not tested myself as I did not get my MLPF running yet. Sound reasonable to me that a SW utilizing HW acceleration on a machine with hacked graphic drivers possible causes crashes, and that disabling likely helps.

What is the downside of disabling HW aceleration in a web browser such as Chrome? If scrolling/window-movement is handled by the OS window manager, it still runs on the GPU thus fast, and only the HTML-stuff gets SW-rendered instead of HW-rendered? Anyone having performance experiences with HW acceleration on/off in Chrome?

UPDATE: I tried Chrome without HW acceleration on Mac OS X 10.6.8.
  • Scrolling was the same (seems to be handled by OS window manager, thus GPU)
  • Basic page rendering - noticed no differences
  • Animation/effects (i.e. LightBox overlay animations, or CSS3 animations) - are noticeably more laggy without HW acceleration

"GL" as in "graphics library". And also mentioning "engine" and "driver" as crashed processes. Very clearly that the HW graphics acceleration is the one crashing. Just try to disable HW acceleration, and see how it works then for you.

As I update in my post above, the effects of disabling HW acceleration in a nutshell are: scrolling + rendering basically the same, but animations are more laggy!

<<As you said this is in fact the key to solving this issue. Chrome is stable, and seems reasonably fast hardware acceleration disabled. Now the system has become very useful to me. Awesome :)

It would need further investigating, but it sounds like when HW acceleration is enabled, Chrome attempts to call on graphics functions/libraries that are removed in MLPF'ed MF. Could be some of those OpenGL/OpenCL 4.x functions that were removed and replaced by older code to maintain compatibility with older graphics chips. One of MLPF's side effects...

Excellent! I checked the system requirements for my Mac and it seems I'm eligible for MLPostFactor! My iMac is an '06 model with the Radeon X1600 GPU, so I should be in the clear. I'll have to install it as my main system - after I backup my existing partition, of course - a little bit later and see how it works!

Yes and I apologise for this, but some people kept asking questions about MVPF here, so that was my attempt to show them how limited it would be compared to MLPF.

Just updated my mid 2007 Mac Mini a few days ago and it works like a charm! Most of the time it feels faster than 10.7.
Just a few little bugs I've noted so far are Pixelmator 3 and jDownloader not working. Both quit with error -10810 which is practically undocumented and/or stands for unknown error as far as I could find info about it. But I guess I can live with it :p
The one thing I registered for though is updating. I've installed 10.8.3 and wanted to get it to 10.8.5 through combo update. Is this even possible? I get this error when trying:

You should maybe rename the entries in SystemVersion.plist (found in /System/Library/CoreServices) to their standard values, replacing the MLPostfactor string with the original build-string, like if you put the ProductVersion (and the ProductUserVisibleVersion) to 10.8.5, you should set ProductBuildVersion to 12F37.

Seems to work so far. Thank you! :) after installing I'll have to run MLPostFactor from "Install" partition again, I guess(?

Your system therefore has the double disadvantage of being based on:
1) EFI 32 -> cannot boot 64bit Mac OS natively (-> 32bit MLPF addresses this issue)
2a) GMA 950 -> no 64bit support for that graphics chip
2b) GMA 950 -> hardware not capable to support OpenGL/OpenCL 4.x adopted by Apple since ML

In summary, you can use 32bit MLPF v0.3 to install ML up to 10.8.4/10.8.5 version. There should be no issue there.

OK, the installation started well and all, but it finished with "installation failed". Restarted into the Install partition and applied MLPostFactor again. At least it boots.
Is it supposed to do this? It is a patched OS after all. How can I check?

I would like to ask when will arrive v0.3.1 ?

i have mac pro 2.1, now i use lion with 5770. I try to install ml with my old 7300gt, it's working fine, after that i put back 5770 if it works,but unfortunately it doesen't work. I would like to ask when will arrive v0.3.1 ? Thanks.

Any idea, how to fix it manually? How to recognize 5770 and continue boot?
It only shows bootscreen, ring is spinning… Can i edit anything?
