iPhone 5s and iOS 7 Rank Highly in Top Google Searches of 2013

Google has released its annual Google Zeitgeist feature highlighting popular and trending searches for 2013 in various categories. As usual, several Apple-related terms rank highly among most popular searches for the year, led by "iPhone 5s" at #3 and "iOS 7" at #11.

Rounding out the list of Apple products included in the main list was "iPad Air", which took the 68th spot among most popular searches. Other popular tech products included Samsung's Galaxy S4 in eighth place, PlayStation 4 in ninth, and Xbox One in 19th.

Google also includes a number of rankings broken down by category and geography. In the United States, for example, the trending tech gadgets category was led by the PlayStation 4 and Samsung Galaxy S4, but Apple took the next four spots with iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPad Air, and iPad mini. Even the iPhone 6 made an appearance in tenth place among trending tech gadget searches for 2013.

apple ranks high on google search. Awesome.

Wonder if the reverse it true as well. :)

When browsing the trends filtered to Canadian content, the #1 most searched for technology term is "Outlook" followed by "iPhone 5s", wtf is wrong with my fellow Canadians.

Meh, the google site loads very heavy on the ipad 2,can't seem to open it.
Curious to see the rank #1 most searched :confused:

I always love the Zeitgeist because it means Google has to actively tell us how more people were interested in Apple's products over their own.

I admire their honesty though. They could easily down play Apple's rankings in the lists but instead emphasise them.

This is all drivel. We all know the top ten searches on Google are for porn-related terms. :eek:

Also, Atari Breakout was searched more than the iPad Air?!? Uhm, no.

Same experience on iPad 3 in Chrome. It would seem that the site is not optimized for tablets because I can't interact meaningfully with the site at all beyond watching the video. I guess Google's still trying to figure the whole tablet thing out? Or maybe they're just pissed that more people didn't search for "Nexus 7" this year and they're seeking revenge?

I often search for named tech products, but usually when I've got a problem with them. I think all my searches which included the term 'mavericks' were to diagnose a problem. But then, they were mostly through DuckDuckGo or StartPage.

Technically you are correct. But in reality, Apple has Siri which is their approach to search. Behind the scene it cobbles several search engines to support the responses Siri provides. See article -- https://www.macrumors.com/2013/12/1...-as-apple-works-to-reduce-reliance-on-google/

Now you may still say that DuckDuckGo is better than Siri. But the question still stands - how high does Android or Google related questions rank within Siri?

Apple would still come out on top here, we all know that "rule 34 iPhone 5S" and "Tim Cook naked" are trending like crazy right now.

I know where the searches are coming from.

I think half of the iOS 7 searches Are form me. And I also account for half of the iPhone 5s searches.

Sounds like a lot of people are looking for solutions to problems for the iPhone5s and iOS 7.

May be Google should send Apple the most common searches related to those topics to help Apple determine the criticality of issues with their products. :)

I don't get why anyone would use DuckDuckGo. Having a search engine get to know you helps you get more relevant search results. The tinfoil hat crowd is only hurting themselves.

I'm okay with more relevant results. What I'm not okay with is the other ways Google has begun using the data on me that they've amassed over the past 2 decades. I don't like that they've begun sharing those details with my friends. I don't like that they've shared those details with advertisers. I don't like that they've shared the details with anyone. And since everything is hackable, I don't like that they have the details at all, since anyone with the know-how can hack Google and extract everything that Google knows.

So I go with DuckDuckGo. I make a search, they give me the results along with some ads relevant to only those ads (they have to support themselves somehow) and then they discard the search I made. There's no database of information on me (or any of their other users) that anyone can hack into.

That's a pretty good argument against me having a computer, especially since Google has a much better understanding of security than I do. I'll have to remember that one. Personally, I like to write my information in such a way that potentially linking sources have conflicting information. :cool:
