In an email sent to employees today, Apple CEO Tim Cook reflected on the company's accomplishments throughout the past year, discussing a wide variety of subjects including product releases, humanitarian efforts, and corporate initiatives. Cook also made statements looking toward the next year, stating that Apple has "big plans" for 2014. The full email has been posted by 9to5Mac.

This holiday season, tens of millions of people around the world, from all walks of life, are experiencing Apple products for the first time. Those moments of surprise and delight are magical, and they're all made possible by your hard work. As many of us prepare to celebrate the holidays with our loved ones, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on what we've achieved together over the past year.

First and foremost, we introduced industry-leading products in each of our major categories in 2013, showing the breadth and depth of innovation at Apple. We extended our lead in the smartphone market with iPhone 5s; launched iOS 7, an extraordinarily ambitious project; released OS X Mavericks for free to our customers; introduced the iPad Air and the iPad mini with Retina display; and this week began shipping the Mac Pro from a manufacturing facility in Austin, Texas. We also marked our 50 billionth download on the App Store - a milestone no one could have predicted we would reach so quickly.

Together we've shown the world that innovation at Apple goes beyond our products to the way we do business and how we give back to our community. This year, Apple raised and donated tens of millions of dollars for important charities and relief efforts like Red Cross aid to typhoon victims in the Philippines, and we continue to be the largest contributor to (PRODUCT)RED, supporting the Global Fund in its fight against the spread of AIDS in Africa. Just a few weeks ago, Jony Ive led an unprecedented effort that brought money and awareness to eliminating the transmission of AIDS from mother to child.

And finally, Apple is standing up for what we believe is right. We know that equality and diversity make our company and our society stronger, so we've urged the U.S. Congress to support workplace protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. We are also laser focused on our contribution to several environmental initiatives and we will increase our efforts even more in this area in the future.

We have a lot to look forward to in 2014, including some big plans that we think customers are going to love. I am extremely proud to stand alongside you as we put innovation to work serving humankind's deepest values and highest aspirations. I consider myself the luckiest person in the world for the opportunity to work at this amazing company with all of you.

Apple is said to be working on a variety of new products for 2014, including both updates to existing products and new product categories. Most notably, the company is rumored to release an iPhone 6 with a larger display that is curved and a 12.9-inch iPad with an ultra high definition screen. Also rumored is an "iWatch" smart watch containing biometrics and iOS device integration, as well the release of a ultra-high definition television set. In terms of software, Apple is also expected to launch OS X 10.10 and iOS 8 in the fall, with updates to programs such as Aperture also possible.

I'd really like to see Apple some how integrate the libraries of their apps, Logic, Aperture and Final Cut Pro. It sword be nice if recorded sound when to the same place as all record sound and then you use it in a with Logic or FCP.

They don't need to merge the apps, but a common digital asset manager really would help a lot of propel and make it MULTI-USER. Most people work with other people.

Most company CEO's probably do memos like this but it doesn't get leaked on the internet for everyone to ridicule. Whoever is leaking these memos to 9to5Mac should be fired in my opinion.

Rather typical of larger Fortune 500-type multi-national corporations. You can't shake everyone's hand, especially when they are scattered in multiple time zones.

The message is understandably bland and predictable, probably because he expected a certain/very real possibility that the message would be leaked to the public Internet.

Most of these kind of messages aren't leaked to the Internet, simply because Joe Websurfer doesn't gives a crap about canned laudatory statements from some random company's senior management.

It's an exception that Apple CEO statements are leaked to the Internet, mostly because of small but vocal contingent of OCD-addled Apple fans love corporate communications pornography. (Plus Apple rumor sites get huge page views from this sort of ranting).

The statement is merely a pleasantry. It's not going to affect employee morale or the stock price in any material way.

The real appreciation comes in the form of extra PTO (Paid Time Off), stock options, or some sort of additional credit to the employee product store (all of which are probably highly confidential and specific to the individual employee).

It's highly possible that some Apple PR lackey "leaked" this e-mail to 9to5Mac.

Nah, Apple says 4" is the 'perfect' size. But if they do make it larger, they'll say the new larger screen is actually the 'perfect' size and people will no longer like 4".

Must be nice to have someone like Tim who cares about his team. He truly sounds grateful and full of content, even if the folks over at Wall Street aren't. Keep the amazing products coming, Apple. You have my money. :)

Worrying about which Apple employee leaked Tim's email is not high on my list of priorities, but that's just me. Maybe you should go "Undercover" and try to bring this evil felon to justice? :p

There isn't anything sensitive in the memo. It's a feel good kind of statement. I'm surprised you think it's such a big deal. It's not like the upper management at Apple cares about internet trolling. Such a thing isn't even a blip on their PR radar.

I work at a newspaper. Our version of that is we still have bosses around. If someone figures out the news version of an iPad, please pass it along!

Maybe a redesigned hybrid 12.9" MacBook Air that turns into the new iPad Pro when you switch from OS X to iOS, with the ability to detach the keyboard. It would probably be smaller than the current 13" MBA. That introduction would be really big and many of us would definitely love the versatility of such a device. It would sell like hotcakes. Introducing the new MacPad Pro!!!

I'm not getting worked up over it. But I do think people who leak this stuff should be fired. Just my opinion.

Did the chinese workers at Foxconn received this email too? (because they are the only ones making our "magical experience" possible). I don't think so, they are too busy working their a**es 12 hours a day. Apple won't make them waste time reading corporate emails.

This would require an iOS device running on x86 or a mac running ARM, unless it has both processors in it?

No offense, but either way that sounds like a bad idea, and I'd be disappointed if Apple bit from the "pressure" and started making gimmicky hybrid devices.
