As i have read rumors and thoughts about the iphone 6 coming out later this year, I have not read much about whether Apple will offer a 128gb version and wondered what your thoughts are. I would like and need more space on my phone as i like having my music directly on the phone vs itunes match. I would assume there are other folks who use the phone for gaming or watching movies. There was some thought that 128gb would be offered in the iphone 5s but it was a no go. I think Samsung will offer this one way or another and to me, i would rather have more space than a bigger screen or a fingerprint sensor. Those do not motivate me to move from my iphone 5 64gb. Your thoughts?

While this is true, Apple also charges a premium for the larger storage options...I'd imagine that a $499 on contract ($949 full retail) 128gb option is still entirely possible.

True, but they did adopt the 128gB option for the iPad. We will have to wait and see
128gb is the driving force for my next upgrade.
I have owned 160gig iPod's in the past and this will finally bring the iPhone up to iPod storage standards.

They (Samsung) Doesn't have to because you can easily slide a 64 or 128 gig SD card into a current 16/32 gig Android phone.
Apple doesn't have that option. Thus building an 128 gig iPhone is almost the equivalent minus the SD card expansion.
I have owned 160gig iPod's in the past and this will finally bring the iPhone up to iPod storage standards.

When the 128 Gb iPad 4 came out, most people thought Apple was planning to make 32, 64 and 128 the new storage standard starting with the fifth-generation iPad (which became the Air and it didn't happen) so I don't think the iPhone will get 128 at least this year.
I would like so see the data behind this. When the 5s came out, the local stores were always out of stock of the 32 and 64GB phones but you could walk in and buy a 16GB (of course colors and carrier varied).
32 is going to become standard unless Apple accepts MicroSD and expandability, which they more then likely won't. A 128GB also won't cost $499, it will cost $399 on contract or $849 off contract.
Since the rumor has it that Apple locked in the 4.8" screen, here is my guess at the new late-2014 lineup:
iPhone 6: 32, 64, 128GB at $199, $299, and $399 on contract or $649, $749, and $849 off contract
iPhone 5s spinoff (5sc?): 16, 32GB at $99, $299 on contract or $549 and $649 off contract
iPhone 5c: 16GB Free on Contract or $449 off contract
They probably made a lot more of the 16Gb variant available because they knew it was the most popular.
What you actually mean is you want to get 32 GB for the current price of 16 GB.
You don't say? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that 99% of iPhone buyers will go for the 16 GB model, 0,9% will maybe opt for the 32 GB and the remaining fraction will go for the maxed out model. Obviously Apple knows this as well, so they will ship 100 16 GB models, 10 32 GB and one each of all colors in 64 GB.
I don't think they will do 128GB this year either.
As mentioned above, cloud and streaming services have reduced the demand for more storage on board devices.
For example, I used to wish there was a 128GB iPhone so that I could put my whole 70GB iTunes Music library on there. Now I have iTunes Match so there's no need. I get by with 32GB and still usually have about 6GB free. The demand for large storage just isn't there for most users anymore. A lot of people also have turned to apps like Spotify, Pandora, and iTunes Radio for music. The 64GB is the lowest selling variant of the 5S. It won't happen this year. It will be 16/32/64 again.
