Mixing memory modules in Powermac G5

If I have both CAS3 and CAS4 RAM modules for the PowerMac, will the computer automatically use the lowest speed for both? They are both DDR2 PC2-4200 533Mhz but the CAS3 memory have faster timing.

If so, I should replace the factory-installed CAS4 RAM with the faster RAM.

don't quote me on this but i don't believe the g5 will run it any faster than CAS4. this was also true of the older g5s which wouldn't run anything faster than CAS3.

It's not going to make any significant difference what CAS level you choose.

Having enough memory to avoid the Virtual Memory penalty matters MUCH MORE than having too little of a more expensive memory choice.

Too little memory, and you will hit the "as fast as a HD" memory speed bump.
