It kind of confirms the articles floating around re Samsungs business practices.

Steal an idea. Delay. Delay. Delay. Delay. Countersue. Delay. Delay. Delay.

Correction.

Revised Samsung Strategy:

Steal an idea. Delay. Delay. Delay. Delay. Countersue. Delay. Delay. And when all else fails, deflect the blame/culpability on your business partner (i.e. Google).

I agree that the findings of fact in the cases against Samsung may allow Apple to then take the results of these infringement rulings and sue Google. If that ever happens, hold on to your shorts...

And with the courts validating such antics time and again, of course it's bound to continue. The courts are practically cheering Sammy on.

You know, while the hearing was going on, I always wondered why neither Apple nor Samsung questioned the validity of either's patents. They instead argued a big soap opera over Steve Jobs' Holy War, and a bunch he said she said BS. Prior art, obviousness, none of that was brought up this go-round. It was simply "does Samsung's implementation violate Apple's, or vice versa, and is all this being done out of spite".

I think I know why.

It's because neither Apple nor Samsung want to take that very, very dangerous route. If they do, it'd likely start a chain reaction that'd end up with a goodly chunk of both companies software patent portfolios being invalidated, or even worse, software patents being scrapped entirely. Everyone involved are only willing to toe the line just enough to get what they want, without causing anyone to question the system as a whole.

...and that's why Apple will never go after Google.

Those rich lawyers get even richer.

Defending your rights is one thing, but ugh....

Invest these millions into R&D.

The problem is Apple HAS the money.
It simply does not want to make items customers want.

It makes items, then persuades customers they want it.

For years (and it nearly killed them) People wanted cheap desktop mac's great graphics cards. Mac's could of been THE gaming platform but they just kept it all too locked down and lost and it pretty much killed them till Steve came back with the iToy stuff.

Same with phones.

Apple COULD for the past few years of been offering various sized phones at various price points running iOS and not allowed Android to take over.

But no, again, like the desktop they kept things locked down and now Android in ownership terms is miles ahead.

They are great at making what THEY want to make, and making money from their loyal fanbase.

Locked down systems NEVER win in the long term.

I believe going after Google is Apple's ultimate strategy. Each of these verdicts and the findings of fact behind them can be used to petition for summary judgements against Google.

Google is a harder target. In the beginning, Google DELIBERATELY left something's in Android less optimal than iPhone, partly because they wanted to stay "one step" from crossing the patent line. As seen in the trial, it was Samsung that took their custom Android skin and made it nearly identical to iPhone... Right down to documented design committee decisions to use "Google's way" or "Apple's way"

I really hope apple is making the necessary moves to create/enter a market that Samsung simply has no capability of copying and implementing their own products effectively. I think apples push into health will be a whole health ecosystem and they are forging partnerships that Samsung won't have and as a result will never be able to compete.

I have no problem with competition but Samsung is a scum company that does not deserve one bit of its success in any market.

You don't have a clue how big Samsung is do you? Anything electronic will more than likely have Samsung parts in it. Without Samsung Apple would not be able to ship the numbers it does.

This type of comment make Apple fans hated by anyone else. It makes them seem arrogant and totally ignorant all in one go.

I would never buy a samsung product ever. If we all did this they we're understand that stealing American technology is not the way to go.

Well you are buying products full of Samsung components.

So you won't buy a Case and OS made by Samsung, but you'd but it if all other parts of the device were made by them?

What are your rules?

If Apple make the Case, and iOS and Samsung make all the inside, screen, batter, CPU/GPU would you still buy it as an Apple product despite is really being a Samsung phone in an Apple case?

I know that's not the case right now, but would you buy it?

People who hate Samsung should stop buying Apple products that contains Samsung components, otherwise you are giving your approval.

You can't have it both ways.

I hate Samsung, but happy to buy things full of Samsung parts and I'll pretend they are not in there as I can't see them.

Hmmmm, was it Samsung deflecting the blame? Or was it a juror.

The bigger "loss" for Apple in this case - and where Samsung really "won" is that they won't be liable now or in the future for ~$40 per device - which is what Apple wanted.

pledge

Again, I can only pledge that I will never purchase a Samsung branded product for the rest of my life! I can't avoid products with internal samsung parts, but I can avoid all outer branded products.

Look, most people here are Apple fans, which is why they're on this site. Agree with Apple on litigation or not, one thing is clear. Samsung steals. They've done it to companies before Apple and they'll do it long after.

I can't control what companies continue to use internal Samsung parts (*ahem* Apple), but I can make a conscious decision to never buy Samsung consumer products again.

Nothing brings a company down faster than people who simply stop buying from them.

I understand very well how big Samsung is. I know they are in almost every gadget you can buy, including Apple's. I know that won't change anytime soon. Still samsung's corrupt business of copy first and stall until it's too late to matter needs to stop. I really do hope apple can manage to create a market that Samsung can not easily copy.

I like apple products but I'm no fanboy. I really like Motorola, HTC, and Nokia. They all make fantastic phones. I don't care if others hate me for hating on Samsung. Samsung is a scum company that abuses and ignores laws on a scale no other company seems to come close to.

Do these companies ever have to pay money if they just keep dragging this out forever or what? Talk about a joke of a system.. If you have enough money, copy your competitor and it will be years before you ever get in trouble. By then you would have made enough money to negate any court costs.

To their lawyers, anyway. Part of me wonders if this isn't an international Korea/US pissing match...

Samsung winning strategy

As expected. They have been doing this kind of practice for decades. It's a winning strategy and kills the competition. They know users do not care. They know cheap knockoffs sells and wins. Who cares about their business reputation or illegal practices, people do not care and keep buying their knockoffs. Specially in the US. Americans love to buy cheap knockoffs even it means killing companies in their own home turf.

They all "steal." Are you forgetting Apple was also found guilty of infringement?
