No sound on iMac

Ok so, i have an Imac 2 ghz Intel core duo; 10.6.8

I got it from my dad, already installed, and he didnt gave me the inst disk...

the PROBLEM is NO SOUND.....

when i go to pref>sound> there is no choise of internal speakers, and it doesn't recognize plugged in headphones or ext speakers.... pref>sound>output> the selected device has no output controls
it shows only soundflower as option
ive tried the jack thing, there is no red light coming from inside...

ive resseted the PRAM, which gave me the start up chime..
i tried a bunch of different things, i read about nothing helped..

It looks like to me, it doesn have any drivers?

How can I install drivers without installation cd

Is there any way to bypass this situation, if its a case of missing drivers?

PLEASE HELP, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO????????

You might give this a try

I don't have access to a Snow Leopard (10.6.x) machine any longer, but back in the day, I would run across the same issue and discovered that opening GarageBand and playing any audio file (a sound loop, perhaps) would reset something, somewhere in the computer, and voila! I'm not even sure you had to play an audio file. Just opening GarageBand may have been enough. Good Luck.

It looks like Soundflower has grabbed the audio and isn't configured correctly.

You can go to "Audio MIDI Setup" in the Utilities folder (Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup) and select the built-in Output there.

I'd also remove Soundflower, unless you are using a program or device that needs it.

Thank you for responding, when i open audio midi setup, there is no option for built in speakers...
Garageband didnt cut it...
im so desperate...
i will remove soundflower

ok, so i removed the soundflower, using unnistall readme txt, through terminal, and it was removed succesfully ..
now when i try to open pref>sound- i get the error could not load the sound preference pane...

Any ideas anybody?

the problem persist, if i sign as a different user
Ive, done all the permissions, still nothing

Are you saying there's no sound Preference Pane in Preferences? Or the Preference pane won't load?

It sounds like there may be corruption of the audio kext in: System > Library > Extensions > AudioAuuC.kext

Do you see the Audio kernel extension (kext) in that location?

i correct myself.
after rebooting, and another permission repair, it opened the sound pane, with again only two options soundflower 2 ch 16 ch...

There is no option anywhere for built in, and also for option "output" the selected device has no output controls..

It looks like you may have a corrupt audio kernel extension. There should be a listing shown for the internal or digital output on that Preference Pane.

The only other think I can think of is to take a headphone plug and push it into and out of the output jack a few times to be sure the contacts close all the way when there is no plug inserted.

Some people have used a wooden toothpick to clean the contacts.

can you think of any way for repairing this..
i dont have the installation disk, :(:(:(
i really don't know how to get a hold of osx 10.6x disk

murphy's laws have a huge impact on my life, for three days now, and counting...

I edited my post with another solution to try first. If that doesn't work, a reinstall might be your only option.

my dad gave it to me two nights ago, already installed, and He got it from a friend.. obviosly idiot since he didn t ask for install cd...
my dad is a sound engineer, and he is completely in every way the same as, Del Boy Troter from "only fools and horses...
So if you watched the tv show you understand my missfortune....

so do you now any source that i can download it from :confused:.. i dont now where to turn, i have only old installation cd for tiger

Okay, I tried EVERYTHING.

Trust Me.

I even did the downgrading to the 10.6.7 HDA.

HERE IS THE SOLUTION:

YOU WILL NOT NEED TO LOOK ANYWHERE ELSE, IF YOU FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

1. Download and install the 10.6.8 Supplemental Update from Apple (link below).

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1429

2. Once the update is installed, and the system has restarted, type "Disk Utility" into Spotlight, press enter to launch it, and select your hard drive on the left. Then click "Repair Disk Permissions." (This step may or may not be necessary, but is a good idea in case there are discrepancies from the update).

3. Once the utility is finished, plug in some headphones. Then, press the Option key and click on the speaker icon in the menu bar.

4. Click the Headphones option under the "Output Device" section. You should get sound.

Unplug the headphones and ensure that the audio is not muted. You should now also get sound through your speakers.

ok, so i did the SMC restart, followed the instructions, but i dont know if it worked, beacause i suppose the clock and everything shuold be reset to 1970.. that didnt happen

i will try this and read everything, but i already downloaded supplemental update, but not through these steps...
so i will try it now
