No love for the mac mini again?

to me, this is more exciting than any Dr. Dre news.

No surprise here, it's due for a refresh.

Cool! I wonder if there will be any drastic improvements to the iMacs.

Still very happy with the iMac 2009 i7, maxed out with 16Gb and 256 SSD. I never owned a computer that long. I just don't see the need to upgrade any time soon.


Until Apple forces me with OSX 10.10 that won't support my current iMac.

Part of me is excited for a new iMac, and a part of me is a bit scared that the resell value of my Dec 2012 iMac will decrease by a huge amount :S

I recently bought a 2012. I don't use it much except for as a Plex server, so it'll be a while before I upgrade. Nevertheless, excited to see what they do for it!

I currently have an i7 Mac mini 2012 - it's a long shot but maybe that "GPU Only" iMac is the low-cost one that we have been hearing about and maybe, just maybe, it could save me money when upgrading.

The mac I have is great for everyday use but it is terrible in terms of gaming performance (I know, I know, "If you want to game then go the PC route!")

I'm not expecting a major change, maybe just a beats logo on the back under the Apple logo

It's like 20 years old in computer years. Who the heck wants to buy a 20-year old computer?

My late 2009 i7 is still going strong, so I guess I can wait another year to replace it.

A simple speck bump by +0.1Ghz really won't do it and if it is a whole number increase possibly something major like 4K+TB2+new GPU (wishful thinking but you never know) and a Thunderbolt 4k display. Also a mac mini with crystalwell to "support" the 4K display, if not now it will happen in november...

Not to burst your bubble, but Apple always increased numbers by 1. My late 2012 is the 13,2. The late 2013 is the 14,x. It only makes sense for the 2014 model to be named 15,x.

My guess: Slight bump, lower price on the 21" and maybe Thunderbolt 2.
Because let's be honest. I would not pay the current price for a desktop with integrated graphics...

I'm still happy with my Late 2008 iMac too. Upgrading to a good SSD makes all the difference. Thinking about upgrading but not a big fan of the current model - particularly the difficulty of upgrading/replacing the RAM and HDD. Hopefully the new one will make that easier!

I'm waiting for a retina 27" iMac. I know it could be a while, but my 2011 i7 doesn't feel sluggish at all, so it will take a major feature to get me to jump.

So, 3 new devices listed. One without a monitor, new Mac Mini rebranded as iMac or headless iMac?????

Same. That computer really was top of the line when I bought it, and with the addition of an SSD it's chugging along nicely almost 5 years later. Although lately its perhaps gotten a little slower at times, I'm wondering if I need to add 8GB more RAM in order to max it out, since I do have a good 2 dozen apps open at one time often.
Most likely the only thing likely to induce me to upgrade is a retina iMac, and even then it'll be a hard sell

I thought there were no new processors available yet? 4k is like the only big upgrade available unless it's a minor spec bump

i think only a price drop or a new spec down imac because i dont see how a new one can come without broadwell

Yeah, I just can't believe how long this computer is lasting me. Often I look longingly at new macs, wishing my old one was just a little bit slower so I could justify a new purchase. But for the last 5 ½ years, there's just been nothing to induce me to upgrade. Granted the most taxed it ever gets is with Fifa12...

After reading that headline, I'm suddenly sitting up straight, with my ears perked up…..

If the only change is a CPU speed bump within the same processor family, the model identifier does not change. Examples: Late 2007 MacBook Pro, Early 2014 MacBook Air.

We know Intel has recently introduced faster desktop Haswell CPU variants which Apple could use in an iMac, but the model identifier change implies something else in the computer is also going to change.

It could be as simple as also updating to the recently introduced Intel 9 series chipset. A new chipset needs an updated kernel and some drivers, therefore the model identifier needs to change to prevent an older OS trying to run on the new model when it isn't fully compatible.

I agree that those seem likely changes. TB2 would also trigger a model identifier change, since Mavericks is the minimum for all Macs with TB2 controllers, and using the previous model identifier would allow the new iMacs to run Mountain Lion.

yes, I thought the same: why no "display" in the first model/plist file ... that would be strange. iMac without display as the new mini?

Nah mate, they change the number with a significant refresh as you said the 2012 and 2013 refresh. When a simple spec bump is made like the retina early 2013 they keep it the same. These are speculations so lets wait till monday...

Makes sense.. especially the 10.9.3 update included enhanced support for 4K displays. This could be the next evolution of what would be a Mac Mini.
