I am replacing a failed hard drive on my ibook g4. after replacing the hard drice how would i install the operating system OS X onto this new drive?

Just pop in the OS X DVD and allow it to boot. Then you can format the drive in HFS+ format before installing OS X.

Of course, it should be that simple!

Hold down C when the disc is in the drive, which will boot from it. Then open disk utility, select your new HD from the source list on the left, erase and continute the installer.

just the os x tiger disk i bought?
