Where are my Screenshots?

For some reason my screenshots are no longer showing up on my desktop, or anywhere on my computer that I can find. When I press Command + Shift + 3 or 4 I can hear the snap sound but it doesn't appear on my desktop. I've tried Spotlight search for "Picture" but found nothing. It was working fine a few days ago, I don't know what happened. Anyone else experience this?

Trace/BPT trap

I think this looks bad, repairing disk permissions to see if it helps

No luck with permissions repair. I don't know what to do at this point...

This is over a year since you posted this, but I had the same problem and did some looking online. Command + Option + Escape will bring up force quit. Select Finder and relaunch it. This solved the problem for me.

I know this is an old thread but this just started happening to me, my screenshots are no where to be found but it does make the camera noise. I've tried relaunching finder from the force quit window but that has not helped.

What keys you pressing? Remember it's Apple-Shift-3 for Full Screen, Apple-Shift-4 for a selector and Apple-Shift-4 then SpaceBar to only do the active window.

It always shows on the desktop. Stock it's always picture 1, picture 2, ETC.

for whatever reason this just happened to me on mountain lion. tried everything (console command, finder relaunch, disk utility) and still no pictures anywhere. both full screen shots and select shots. the first shot i took when i noticed the issue showed up on the desktop, and non after that. its just one random thing after another since mountain lion for me.... not a happy camper and dont care much for a solution unless it involves violence right now (jk)

Try taking the screenshot, then opening up Preview in Finder. it should be on the clipboard still and there is an option to save from there.

I realise those who were having issues haven't posted in this thread for a very long time, but just to clarify: If you want your screenshots to go to the clipboard, then you need to add the Ctrl key to the screenshot combo. Cmd + Shift + 3/4 saves to the desktop, Ctrl + Cmd + Shift + 3/4 goes to the clipboard.

Also for reference, a "permissions repair" entirely skips all your personal folders (such as your desktop). It's intended for system locations only.

Though a permissions issue was very likely behind the original issue. Using Get Info (Cmd + I) on the Desktop folder would've likely revealed this, and allowed it to be corrected. Personally I'd've made sure the permissions on the home folder were correct, then had those applied to all child objects (using the little gear icon at the bottom of the permissions list to "apply to all enclosed items").
