Pretty happy with Charter. I have had them for about 4 years now and have been bumped up three speed classes since then. $55 a month (including modem, I use an AC Extreme) for 60Mbps/4Mbps. I wish the upload speed was faster because it typically takes a good 20 minutes to upload a compressed 10 minute video to YouTube. Speed is pretty consistent though, whereas when I has DSL through Verizon I paid $40 on top of my phone bill for 1Mbps down and was lucky to get 500Kbps.

Still waiting on fiber. Verizon was supposed to bring FiOS but then they stopped rolling it out so only a very small part of the area got it.

($55 is internet only, no TV or phone).

My cable company does a good job. I chose the second from highest speed available, and usually get at least 100 Mb/s. A few times, during high usage hours, it dips, but they're working on preventing this, (or so I was told when I called to inquire). I got the triple bundle package so it includes phone/cable (all premium HD channels included), plus internet and 2 DVR's for $185/month including tax/fees.

I don't use the DVR's ever, and hardly watch any of the premium channels. Now that I can get HBO w/o cable, I'm going to drop everything but internet.

True but considering I work for Virgin Media as an engineer and our lowest package is now 50MB... BT really do suck haha!

Is virgin using fibre or coax?

Once you pass the 25-30 Mbps mark I think that it is diminishing returns. I think I use more bandwidth then your average person watching 4k Netflix, and down/uploading huge GIS files for work. Honestly I cannot really tell the difference between my 150mbps fiber service, and my old 25 Mbps vdsl service in day to day usage.

If I'm torrenting or uploading it is markedly quicker, but just perusing the web, and watching YouTube is the same.

I think a lot of this is just marketing honestly, and my it guy at work gave me a bit of an epiphany. He has all the latest gear, and makes a very decent living but he subscribes to a low tier Internet plan. His plan runs about $40 per month, but they offer up to 500mbps for $100 more. His point is that he is patient enough that it's not worth the money. Is a torrent finishing 10 minutes faster really worth all the extra money? In day to day browsing there is hardly any difference at all.

I believe Virgin is fibre to the node, then coax the rest of the way.

I'm happy with the download speed. I think the next upgrade should be focused on upload speeds though.

Hate my ISP, but everything I need to do via the internet I'm able to do so I guess I can only complain so much...but still. Hate.

I'm with a regional provider in northern Germany. The product is called DSL16 Solo (Solo = just internet, no phone line) and costs 25€ ($27.90) a month. There is no download limit.

Looks pretty fast from where I am at…. This evening we are honking along; it's often slower.



Optical fibre installed in the neighbourhood recently…. coming to my apartment in the next day or two, but I'm only getting the 10 Mb option. Lets see how it goes.

I have the basic plan 10 Mb/sec download & 512 Kb/sec upload (unlimited data) @ about $US 19.00/month.

Still slower than 56% of Thailand, but 30 times better download and about 3 times better upload compared to what I had until 30 minutes ago.

Faster plans are available, up to 200 Mb/sec down & 50 Mb / up, but the basic service is fine for me at this stage……

About 8 years ago I had zilch. Then the first connection I got was nominally 156 Kb/sec, but seldom did better than 50 Kb/sec.

The district I lived in for my first couple of years in Thailand (34 years ago) we didn't have electricity, and the nearest telephone was about 15 km away……. And it often didn't work because the copper wire was stolen!

This is my work connection. We're quite far from the exchange and no Fibre. I'll do my home connection when I get in.

Comcast advertises performance as a 150 Mbps service but are delivering 180 Mbps. Only a year or two ago it topped out at 100 Mbps. As much as I don't want to compliment them, they keep increasing the speed without changing the price bracket.

This is ridiculous.

Happy with Charter here. We pay 60/month for 100/5 and get what we pay for.
