There are quite a number of forums that drive certain people bonkers, and subsequently they would rather not see threads in that forum when they hit New Posts.

Well boys and girls, we have the technology! Just roll over the forum you don't want to see in new posts to get it's forum number, like so:

http://upc.*************/uploads/forums/newpost_forum_blocking.jpg

Create yourself a bookmark with this url:
https://forums.macrumors.com/search/?do=getnew&exclude=<forum numbers separated by commas>

So for example, say you don't want to see Politics (heh, imagine that :p), your link would be https://forums.macrumors.com/search/?do=getnew&exclude=47. If you didn't want to see Politics or Marketplace (yet more shocking  :p) your link would be https://forums.macrumors.com/search/?do=getnew&exclude=47,14, and so on.

Happy days! :)

You can now do this from your user options, see arns post below.

and why can't you just make this a feature in the search preferences? Takes some modification and it is a lot easier and would save your preferences in your usercp.....

And you know how to do this?

It astounds me that I/we offer something new, hoping to help people, only to be told that it's not good enough

I modify my own vB boards and work on my own custom hacks, it wouldn't be that hard to do it.

Also its not really offering something new if it is already party of the basic vBulletin functions.

Its just discovering what's already there not really new.

I would love if you implemented that, cause then i could actually use the new posts search and not get tired of seeing threads in forums i don't want to look at.

https://forums.macrumors.com/account/preferences

Under Thread Options.

You can enter a comma seperated list of forumids you don't want in your new searches. Example:

47,60

would exclude Politics and DailyTunes.

Note, wasteland is already included, so you don't have to specify it.

You blocked forum 4?

Isn't that, like, the main purpose of this site? :)

I have the Wasteland, Marketplace, and the Politics/Religion forums blocked.

I typically ignore main article threads as well...they balloon so quickly that they're hard to keep track of and tend to get repetitive. I catch the lead articles through the main page...I'll sometime get involved in an article's thread if I'm there early on, but once it's got a few pages of comments, I'm done.

I do pretty much exactly the same. I tend to read the initial post, which contains the useful information, and maybe scan the first couple of pages for decent comments but then ignore the rest of the thread.

I dont think the point of this new feature is to make it so you dont see the forum, its just to exclude posts from these forums in the "new post" search.
