OK so we've all been on this thread:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/171570/

and some of the connection speeds seem INSANE

Now i want some 17000 Mbps but everyone with such high connections seemed to be in other countries than the UK.

So here's our chance, who's the fastest in the UK?

Post your speed using the adslguide speed test: http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp

or the speakeasy test:
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

If you can, test using both, and we'll have a lil comparison!!

mine, using speakeasy is 1880 down and 225 up

not very impressive...but let the battle commence!

(please tell me that some of us can beat those stateside?:p )

Can't do it from here as I'm in the office, but I get something like 4100 down, 420 up at home.

That's with Homechoice, so the down is slightly higher if we're not watching the telly.

EDIT: Just run the tests, although it looks like there's a bit of contention going on this morning as the download's lower than normal.

Here's mine - I'm on Telewest/Blueyonder!

Speakeasy one didn't really have a chance to get up to full speed though!

Without wishing to hijack this thread - how are you finding Homechoice? They've just upgraded my exchange. Worth it?
FWIW
Plusnet unlimited 2mb - don't really like it -it's too flakey for me. And a good speed boost would be nice.

It was a bit crap whilst they were doing the exchanges, with both broadband and TV outages, but now they've finished things are back to normal. It has usage limits but they are set ridiculously high (80GB/month on my package), and free evening and weekend telephone calls are a nice bonus. We get the 4Mbps Big Pack, which has the broadband, about 40-odd TV channels and all the video-on-demand stuff for £35/month, but you can tailor what to want to shave the cost down quite a bit. If you're unhappy with Plusnet, I'd say go for it.

I've got ADSL2+ which never seems to report the true speed accurately on those speed tests. It often reports that I'm at 10Mbps when I can download files from Apple at 1.6MB/s or higher...

So, here's my modem synch image rather than the inaccurate speed tests. Knock a couple of meg off the downstream to allow for an 'actual use' scenario.

It's with Be* if anyone's interested - and as you can see, it's been 'up' for 23 days so it's pretty stable. And it's unlimited... truly.

Incidentally, it's not the Stateside accounts that you should feel really threatened by - it's the South Asian ones where VDSL is a reality rather than the gleam in ISPs eyes over here

For some reason, Speakeasy says my Telewest Blueyonder 4mbit connection is only at 600k - not sure what that's about, becuase it normally works alright. I've tried the New York and Washington servers. Anyway, ADSLguide is a little more accurate!

I'm with Be Internet. Only available in London at the mo, but they're rolling out ADSL2+ - they advertise speeds up to 24mb, and I generally get around 15mb.

If anyone wants referring, PM me because I think we both get a free month.

Not too bad, although I've seen upload speeds closer to 120kb/s in practice

My fault for living in the hills :) But I get by. Can play HL2 with a ping of 20 so I'm happy with that for the time being.

edit: I'm with Pipex. Unlimited bandwidth is more than needed.

Can happily post some excellent speeds now on Freedom2Surf 8Mb.

This speed represents what we're getting consistently now they've got through their nightmare of unbundling. Very rare that we get any downtime and they're recommendable again. :)

so my connection just got upgraded from a 2Mb to a 8Mb connection without my knowledge, my new speed test comes out at about 5Mb dowload and about 0.4Mb upload.

Anyone else been upgraded?
