Meh? I looked at the free download of the week and it isn't free. Huh?
That just means the code monkeys are back to their usual tricks. (Today in particular they had lots of new video content on the site and probably just didn't get around to making this track free yet).

It usually resolves itself in a day or two, but there was one track last year that never became free during the week it was featured.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wasn't referring to this week's Single of the Week, but the quote seems to apply anyway:
Free at last!

Explanation of my bad joke: I was teasing all of us (myself in particular) about the fuss we make over the free music we pretend we are entitled to, by misappropriating a phrase from Dr. King's famous I have a dream speech. He was talking about real brotherhood and justice. I was talking about Apple being a day late in removing the price from the Single of the Week.

If any of you ordered the free music CD sampler from the Swedish Consulate General in New York (previously offered here), they ran out "due to the overwhelming number of orders received". :(

Has Apple stopped giving away free iTunes in the French store, or is this list no longer being maintained?

Just in case you didn't see this on the main page of the US Store, iTunes is celebrating the 2nd Anniversary of the Single of the Week.

Links just to lists of hot albums originally featured as SOTW's or DD's over the past 2 years. There is also a Staff Favorites list of specific tunes. Nothing free, however.
One of the staff favorites is also one of my favorites: [playlistId=15977575&s=143441&i=15977551]Kicking the Heart Out[/playlistId] by Rogue Wave.

They've never had a streak of excellent songs as good as the very first six in 2004:
Foo Fighters - [playlistId=6906522&s=143441&i=6906455]My Hero[/playlistId] - Alternative

Avril Lavigne - [playlistId=7574208&s=143441&i=7574183]Take Me Away[/playlistId] - Pop

Courtney Love - [playlistId=5365836&s=143441&i=5365816]Hold on To Me[/playlistId] - Rock

Annie Lennox - [playlistId=34644637&s=143441&i=34644625]Pavement Cracks[/playlistId] - Pop

Jane's Addiction - [playlistId=2398531&s=143441&i=2398511]Price I Pay[/playlistId] - Alternative

Counting Crows - [playlistId=6907596&s=143441&i=6907594]Accidentally in Love[/playlistId] - Rock

Some of my favorites are the Volvo / Nu songs. And I notice they don't stay free for long, nor do they come up reliably in searches. So how have people found the links to them?

I have volumes 1-6 (the free songs anyway) and I'm hoping not to miss any new ones.
