MaxBulk Mailer and MailDrop are both nice.

it cost money, but it lets you manage your list quit nicely including subscribe/unsubscribe and such.

Have you considered an ESP (Email Service Provider)? Costs are quite reasonable and the benefits are huge - better deliverability, excellent list management, open/click/other stats so you know what's working and what's not, easy to create HTML/text templates and more.

Been using one at work now for about 4 years. One of the best decisions I've made. I have no affiliation, other than being a customer, but I use SilverPop Systems, they have offices in London.

Way back in 2006 email marketing was an easy task, but these days it has turned into mammoth task.

Most of the hosting companies are suspending websites which indulge heavily into email marketing.

make sure the customer has a way to unsubscribe in the e-mail otherwise your vulnerable to getting fined by the FTC. I worked with a company who sent one out w/o it and a lot of people emailed back and yelled at us for not being CAN-SPAM compliant. Some even reported it. Not something to take lightly.

My company used Cooler Email for a while, but had many formatting issues with the outgoing emails and their Web-based editor is clunky and works best in IE <shudder> so we've dropped them.

I have trouble recommending them.

Mailchimp is a good online mass email company.

We use Campaign Monitor and would be more than happy to recommend them.

We've been happy with Constant Contact.

Why don't you just use Aweber? It's pretty much the standard for email marketing.

My Max Bulk Mailer brings in lots of junk mail

Dear Forum,

I have been using Max Bulk Mailer pro for about 2 years. However, it encourages a lot of junk mail. The very first time i used it I got a lot of Cialis and Viagra emails coming in.

Initially I just thought it was the nature of such things. But it has since made my life a nightmare as the junk mail has now increased so much that it seems to be making my entourage insecure.

Have other people experienced this.

Does anyone know if there is a way to avoid this or if there is a another software that is good but doesn't bring in junk mail.

Install SpamSieve on your email client.

Best Email Marketing Software

Been awile since the last post. There seems to be several options now. Does anyone recommend a specific marketing software to send newsletters

I would recommend you Neolane (www.neolane.com).

But it's pro-software, and you should really need something that powerful if you manage directly a multitude of recipients (at least 10,000).
It's a broad tool but its core is newsletter delivery.

Install spam assassin on your server. You should be able to filter most of the incoming garbage with that tool.

There are both a Windows and a Linux (RHEL/CentOS and .deb) versions available freeware to install on the server you run the mail application.

I just did this last week for a company. They wanted to email Christmas letters to all of their customers from their database. I pointed them to Mail Chimp originally and they replied that it did not do exactly what they needed in a simple format and asked if I could build something for them.

Sure enough, three days later and they had a robust and easy to use emailer app that integrates with their database. It really isn't that hard to build your own email marketing software.

Very simplified explanation:
1) Create loop that steps through each customer
2) Check if 'No Email field' is true or false
3) If false, send html email.

The hardest part will be coming up with the html email design itself. That took about 5 iterations to make the customer happy.

Good luck and let us know if you find a fantastic program, that I could pass on to my clients.

Good thing to notice with the new policy of Gmail and many other mail clients:
today many people don't auto-load images in e-mails (because they can be tracked, or other reasons). Mailchimp also relies on images for checking whether your message is read or not.


Problem is, that because of the blocking, almost 60-70% of bulk email I receive appears empty! That's because many nitwits start with a big splash image. If that does not show and renders white, the message appears empty, and thus no reading!

So whatever you do: DON'T USE BIG HEADER IMAGES!
