Safari SLOW

That delay is automatic and intentional in Safari. an app called SafariSpeed (free) fixed the delay for me, so I watch the page load instead of waiting a few seconds and seeing it all at once.

Other browsers are also available that do not have that built in delay.

I prefer it all at once personally, but my net speed seems to be up to the job of loading most of my pages within a second or two.

When I first read this, I was thinking it was a genuine problem, not just loading times.

It might be the infamous DNS problem. Try following the directions below exactly:

Try going into the Apple menu, click on "System Preferences", click on "Network", double-click "Built In Ethernet" or "Airport" depending on what you use, and in the box that says "DNS Servers" type the following in exactly:

4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2
4.2.2.3
4.2.2.4
4.2.2.5
4.2.2.6

You can copy and paste that block of IP addresses if you wish. Quit System Preferences, and try loading pages again.

would it not be better to put the root domains as supposed to the 4.2.2.x series?

Personally, I hate Safari. In its attempts to be "fast", it loads many graphic files incorrectly, and sets up tables poorly. Our website looks like crap on Safari because even though the HTML is clean, the page always loads with images on top of each other, ignoring break and /paragraph commands.

EDIT: On refresh or initial loads, it's fine when items are already in cache.

4.2.2.x works in every situation and I see no reason why anybody should not try it. Everybody questions this until they just do it and see how great it works. It's also a lot easier to remember then all the domains you typed.

i agree in memorizing the 4.2.2.x. anyhow, i just typed 'dig' and it gave me all the root servers. as for me, i just use my router as the default dns for my clients. works out pretty well.

oh, and to go back to the topic, i just use firefox. a friend likes camino very much ...

What browser you use really has no effect on the DNS thing, which is likely the problem. Safari is actually proven in benchmarks to be faster than everything else except OmniWeb.

I still insist it's a DNS problem, not a browser problem. I haven't changed my stance at all.

srf4real already said what the issue and fix was. safari, for some reason, downloads all the components of the webpage before it shows it to users. nlike other browsers that loads what it can (like text, css) while waiting for other contents (images, flash, etc ...) to load as well.

Listen, kid, I've heard almost this identical complaint from all sorts of people on this forum over the past year alone, and the DNS trick helped in 100% of the cases. I'm not just making stuff up.

It seems to be working faster for me too.

I tried this and Safari seems to take longer to finish loading big graphix pages. Of course, Download Speed: 6582 kbps (822.8 KB/sec transfer rate) at last check is hard to measure in milleseconds.

OMG, I will have to get this app. I HATE Safari because it is so SLOW. I always use FireFox--it is the fastest but I will try the app you posted!

After making the above modifications, as well as installing safarispeed, it's faster than FireFox (the page loads quicker, even the graphics) - Sometimes you have to click twice in order to ensure that the page loads.

Safari is slow? Really?!? What a damn surprise!

Safari is slower than any browser that I've used on a Mac. Not to mention it's numerous bugs and the fact that it's never compliant with all websites since it's rarely updated and when it is, it's already behind.

Safari actually consistently benchmarks faster than all other browsers except OmniWeb, as I've said before. A lot of people make the mistake of seeing FireFox load one or two sites faster like MySpace or something and then assume FireFox is faster.

But actually, Safari is the fastest free browser.
