So - i got a new 2g ipod nano - i'd like to get it engraved, however - it's all ready in my hands - does anyone know a 3rd party or something that will engrave your ipod?

DONT take it to Things Remembered. Not only will they screw you over with the pricing, but it will BREAK inside of the machine.
Trust me, I used to work there. I did an iPod nano for a girl and the screen shattered from the pressure put on it.
You need to find someone who does engravement by hand, not with a machine.

When my GF was ordering a Nano for her son, we were told that it is a really bad idea to try to engrave any iPod other than at the factory. I guess if you take the back cover off it would be ok, but the rep from Apple said that when Apple engraves them, it is before the back is put on.I have no way of knowing if this is fact or not, but that is what we were told.

guessing around 15 bucks give or take.
i used to have access to a laser engraver and bead blaster. i did a few 2nd gen backs. would mask off a design, then bead blast, then remove masking and you would have an "etched" design. laser engraver allowed for very fine vector art to be inscribed. didnt have to open the pod up either.

Maybe I should have been a bit more clear in my posting as to why they told us that engraving was dangerous to iPods. They said it was due to the vibration that happens with traditional engraving. I guess other sorts of engraving could work. My only point was that you should be careful.

I think you will find that it is more likely a universal english slang for F@#$'N ugly. I think I first heard it something like 30 years ago.
anyplace with a LASER engraver should do just fine. The contact engravers, maybe not, but a good jeweler will have a laser engraver. These are no contact, no vibration, just heat, and how Apple has them done in the factory.
