does my dual 2.0 ghz g5 support sata 300 hard drives?

A SATA-II (300MB/s) drive will work fine in your G5, but it will work at SATA-I (150MB/s) speeds as the SATA Controller does not support SATA-II
Don't lose sleep over it though, it takes a serious amount of data being transferred over multiple hard disks to slightly approach 150MB/s limit of SATA-I
