Great... i sense :apple:TV like functionality right around the corner...

...And unless you mean that you really don't want to watch the trailer, you may want to change the title to Live Free OR Die Hard... tho i'm sure some people will like to Live Free OF Die Hard... ;)

these pages are only accessible if you have an iphone user agent (otherwise they redirect). I am finding that they do not render properly in iphoney.

can someone upload a screenshot of one of the pages, and tell me exactly what size the video's are displayed as...

i am wondering what is the best way to rip dvd's for the iphone, perhaps this will help...

a widescreen movie ends up being 640x272 or thereabouts, which is less pixels than the iphone has (480x320), so what is the best option?

So change the user agent, we do it all the time when testing apps with internet explorer 7.

find or write a little proxy that intercepts the request and changes the user agent.

OR

Use a browser that lets you change the user agent.

Is this Apple's unique way of showing mac fans that the iphone WILL be capable of streaming video maybe even from your own server.

I'm sure it can be done, its been done with the most closed platform in the world , psp and xbox.

Can anyone actually confirm you can play the trailer on the iphone?

And here are some questions?

Is the trailer being streamed or cached?

Is there anyway to tell if the iphone has bonjour?

This could be potentially big for developers , or a disappointment. The fact that the iphone has a very capable web browser and h264 decoder opens a ton of possibilities, EVEN if you can't put anykind of homebrew app on the phone.

ps: When I purchased my Iphone I never thought of doing anything but web browsing and phone use, now its seems time to start a new Xcode or java project on sourceforge.

Doesn't looks like it supports rstp, but what is utube app doing?

So I add this to all the projects I have started, busy year.

It definitely caches the video, a lot like the original psp .

Trailers from apple work full screen

EDIT: I you have the program iphoney, surf in to http://www.apple.com/trailers and choose a movie, and it will take you to the iphone special page :)

You don't need iPhoney-if you go with regular safari and choose a movie, it automatically chooses one appropriate for the iPhone-the catch is that the movie is small and plays on the trailer page but flips to the full screen upon rotation

I may actually try the registration hell today, but I haven't been able to keep my self away from the forums, there's just tons of new info coming out, similar to when appletv came out.

So you saying that THERE IS a quicktime plugin in the safari browser, and that it pushes content to the ipod player. How does that work?

edit
Friend with Iphone can't play it, are sure you can play this with your Iphone and not just Iphoney. Might be hope for future, but not in place yet?

what a great idea! browse the web in portrait mode, or view the video fullscreen in landscape mode, makes perfect sense, a moment where apple's simplicity shines out!

I dont have an iPhone but a few of my buddies do (im on sprint) anyhow im working on a mobile streaming video project for some time for mobile phones, and with the iPhone coming out and having multi media abilities I ran some tests yesterday which I posted on my project blog http://mvstreaming.com

the jist is I was unable to stream any format to the phone via safari , both mpeg4, h264 hinted and non hinted didnt work, when trying them directly from a http link the phone would say to big to display in safari or something like that.

of course trying DSS via rtsp nothing worked at all, would get an invalid page.

I have just hit up my buddy he says the trailers work on his iPhone, and play within Safar its self.

looking at the page in FF via the user agent switcher I see some JS but not sure if its required and also the embded div container

HTML:
						<div id="movie-container">
								<embed src="http://movies.apple.com/trailers/iphone/images/greenband_320x133.png"
									href="http://movies.apple.com/movies/disney/wall-e/wall-e-tsr1_p320.m4v"
									target="myself"
									width="320" height="133"
									controller="false"
									autoplay="false"
									scale="1" cache="true"
									type="video/quicktime"
									pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/">
							</div>

the video file data its self is:

320x132
ACC 44.100 kHz
H264 320x132
FPS 23.98
8.41 megs

So when he views the page and clicks on the play button it launches the iPhone video player (the one used to play videos,music etc when u hit iPod on your iPhone)

Here is a quick screen grab of the iPhone trailer page

This javascript is standard for launching an embed player, looks like the video gets cached rather than streamed. Suspect this is very similar to appletv. When I set up my iphone next week I will have a lot more info. This is just standard embedded video. real cool.

We do something similar to stream content to pc's and macs , maybe something similar will work with the iphone.
