Do you have to send if off to Apple?!?
Because the battery will probably only last 2 years, £270 for 2 years of a product even then the last 12-6 months will be a bit dodgy for the battery life in use.
Update to touch Gen 3 which has a 60gb flash drive
So £270 ish every 2 years? Ummm, no thx! Seems like Apple are the worst for getting money out of us. Even PCs last longer. If I buy a TV for £300 it will last years, or a console, microwave, anything nearly! Apple have us in the palm of their hands making such desirable gadgets that the wow factor hides the value factor.
Plus the question was, do you have to send it off...

Where are people getting this "2 years" value from?
About £160 to replace a battery in a 8GB Touch!!!

Where do you people pull these numbers from?
If you do a straight $ to £ conversion, it comes to around £33. Add 17.5%, that's approximately $38 with rounding up.
Now, http://www.apple.com/uk/support/ipod/service/prices/ actually indicates we'll be charged £79 online, or £59 in store, which is still a rip off, but, half of your value.
I havn't looked at the specs on the battery recently, but I think that it may say that that is when it is expected to be only holding an 80% charge, and they miss the 80% part and think that there battery will completely die by then.Where are you getting the two years from?
Ohhh... I was looking at the REPAIR PRICE! Ok... how can you replace it online? £59 still a rip-off but yeah its ok. I will probably get a new iPod in a few years time anyway.
