Ive had the 17" 2.4 gHz for about 6 months now.

The battery has been fine, maybe the odd health percentage going down sometimes but i've been happy with it. A few nights ago while watching a movie, it just decided to switch off (no ac plugged in) when i had just charged it too 100%. I think it was at about 82% when it switched off as i just checked it before it shut down. I tried to turn it back on but it would not have it!! I pressed the battery button on the bottom and it was only the first light lighting up and it was flashing.

So i took it to a mac store and they said it has to be the software as its battery is working fine (they checked it in the store). So i formatted and re-installed and it was working fine but if i leave it for more than 20 minutes without power it will just simply turn itself off.

Has anyone experience this before because i really don't want to have to send it off to apple for it to be checked as i have a lot of work on at the moment!

Thanks,

Dan.

First of all, try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC):

These other articles may or may not help, regarding battery health, management and calibration:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86284

And an interesting one about rogue background processes, which I experienced only this week - reduced my battery life by 40% until I worked out what it was!

If none of these work, or are irrelevant, you've dealt with most of the usual suspects and a visit to the Genius Bar is in order. :)

Cheers

Hey Danyk,

Yes, I'm having a VERY similar issue to yours. It's happened a couple of times to me now. The indicator (both on menu bar and on the battery itself) was showing no less than 50% power left when my MBP simply powered down. No warning or anything. I'm going to give the SMC item a try and see if I notice any difference.

Thanks!

Macbook Pro 15" turns off it self

I have Macbook Pro 15" since yesterday the computer turns off every time when it is pressed the casing around the return key, the light in the key board remained on like if it was hybernating. I can only get i back turning it off pressing the power bottom for more than 15 seconds and turning it back on, what can be wrong.
