Sorry for another iWeb related question - just been frustrating trying to search the internet for this answer. Hoping someone can help. The answer is probably very simple.

I have my iweb site hosted with Globat. In my account management I was able to do a search engine simulator where it crawled my site and gave me feedback. However, my feedback listed that I have no Web Page Title, no text, no META tags (I guess I knew that), in fact, nothing at all. As if it doesnt even exist.

I am not looking for my site to be number one ranking on any keywords on google. But it doesnt even show up if I type in the exact URL in a google search.

Since I have no Web Page Title apparently, I figure my best bet is to make one! So, where exactly is my Web Page Title? I assumed it was the name of my site on iweb, but that doesnt seem to be it. Is there somewhere I am supposed to type this information in. Its almost as if the site doesnt exist unless you type in http://www..... in the address bar.

Like I said, I am not concerned with the ranking and whatnot, even if its on the 10th page after typing in several exact keywords...I just want to see it somewhere, anywhere....Anything I can do to make this happen?

Thank you very much in advance.

Unfortunately the title is set in the sidebar and that same name will be used for the file names. It would be nice to be able to easily set these manually.
Just visit one of my pages and see the URL's for each: http://hungryseacow.com

Thanks for the reply!

I visited your webpage...very nice by the way.

When I googled "hungryseacow" your page came up as the first choice, as it should. How do you do that?

Even when typing in my exact webpage url, google cant find it!?

I get a lot of hits every month and am linked from a lot of popular sites such as Apple.com. I also don't think that "hungryseacw" is a popular search string. :)

I really love iWeb. It does have its limitations but if you can visualize something it is very easy to create in iWeb.

What is your url?

Set your iWeb Page Title using Javascript

Solution – Set the Page Title using Javascript
[copied from http://www.proposedsolution.com/solutions/cant-change-the-page-title-in-apple-iweb/ but with corrections made]

1. In iWeb, open the page you wish to set the title for by selecting it in the left hand navigator

2. When the page appears, click ‘Web Widgets’ or 'Media' at the bottom followed by HTML Snippet. (Or at top click Insert > Widget > HTML Snippet)

3. Paste the following text into the box that appears:

<script type="text/javascript"> parent.document.title="My Page Title" </script>

4. Change the text "My Page Title" to whatever you would like as your page title

5. Click ‘Apply’ and then move the little box that was created up to the top left hand corner of your page to get it out of the way

6. Save & Publish your web site

7. Now your page title should appear as you have set above

8. For your other web pages, you can just copy and paste the little box to all the other pages

Hi
I can seriously recommend you visit http://www.ragesw.com/
It helped me loads with iWeb. Its got a programme called iWeb SEO Tool that makes changing titles and adding meta info really easy. You wont be appearing in google until it index's you. You can speed this up by getting other sites to link to you and submitting a site map with googles webmaster tools. Rage also have a piece of software that can do this called rage sitemap automator. I used those two pieces of software for: http://www.southside-uk.com/
I've also used them for my new site: http://www.adulteducationimagelibrary.com/ this site is only a few days old so I too am waiting to be indexed. Good luck

You can go your home page web coding and in <title> you can write your home page name easily and then you can upload your page to the server.

Publisher, the javascript method works fine. I had a whole set of issues but was able to sort it out with a lot of trial and error.

I also downloaded the SEO tool but didn't end up using it. All it adds in functionality to the java method is page meta tags - google doesn't really use meta tags to index.

When I first used the java method to change page titles - the underlying mobile me url had the new page title but when I went to the forwarded masked domain nothing showed up. I have mine through godaddy.

My final work flow was

1. Change all page titles using the java method

2. Move the domain over to mobileme so the .me.com subdomain was hidden forever.

3. Change the www cname on godaddy to mobileme and forward the .xyz.com domain to http://www.xyz.com

This way all page titles now showed up when I went to http://www.xyz.com

Next step was to get google to actually index the page. I went through and made a sitemap using one of the free online tools. Continuing

4. Sign up for webmaster tools at google
5. Verify your file using the html upload method
6. Make a sitemap (don't forget that the URL links in iWeb are not indexable. I think it's java. So I made a set of txt urls at the bottom of the page to help make the sitemap)
7. Upload the sitemap to google
8. Sign up for a digg account and make a news post announcing your website. That gets you on page 1 of google immediately and also speeds up the indexing process.
9. Wait for google to crawl your site.

Hope this helps someone. I can clarify any of the steps above but there are guides on the net for each step.

Enjoy - eV

Hi

There is a way to do this which doesn't require any Javascript/HTML Snippets. All you need to do is make a duplicate text box with the desired page title and set the font color to 0% opacity.

The page title is taken from the primary text box on each web page. If you have multiple text boxes on a page you can check which is the primary one by moving your mouse pointer over each box - the primary box will show a tool tip with the phrase: "Type a heading for the webpage here". Once you have identified the primary text box, select it and make a copy of it. Don't change the copy - this will be the original text you want to keep on the page. Now edit the text in the original primary text box to be just the page title you want - get rid of everything else (you can resize and reposition this box as you see fit). Now select this page title text, bring up the Fonts panel, click on the button which is labelled Text Color (3rd from the left at the top), and set the Opacity slider to 0%. Now the text should be invisible on the page. The end result of all this should be that your web page looks identical to before you started, expect that you now have an extra text box containing the invisible page title text. You can resize and reposition this - I put this at the top of each web page above the start of the main text.

This approach doesn't suffer from the page title overwrite delay quirks you get with the javascript approach.

cheers,

Nick
