Nope, you have 256MB Built-In and an additional 512MB stick. The ibook only has one memory slot which as of right now is in use by the 512MB stick. You'll have to get 1GB to max it out at 1.2(1GB + 256MB) of ram. Try newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145562 . If buying somewhere else look for PC3200 DDR400 200Pin. You can also get PC2700 but it really doesn't matter, it would just be slower depending on your system

Cheaper, to the tune of about $18. Rebate is part of the money saving, though. Either way Crucial is $8 cheaper, with our without the rebate.

iBook G4 memory upgrade

Hello! i'm new here and I am in a similar situation. My in-built memory is 128MB and has been upgraded with 256MB card... I want to add a bit more memory but I don't know if I can get a 512MB for this model or if there is a 1GB card available... or which one will be worth using...

My suggestion is to go to Everymac.com to check on your specs. It says that the 14" 933mhz iBook maxes out at 640MB, which is almost twice what you have now. I think you will realize a good boost in performance, though mostly perceived when you are running several programs at once. It should make internet browsing and video playback a bit smoother and if you have something bulky like Creative Suite 2 or 3 installed it will definitely help.

I'd check pricewatch for memory and though you can't yell at me when it doesn't work, the iBook should run fine on standard PC2100 200 pin RAM, so you're looking at around $20 for $512 right now. A 1GB card but it will either not work or will only show 512 additional as the system isn't built to recognize more.

Not true. The iBook G4 runs PC2100 RAM at 266 MHz. It will not run faster regardless whether you install 400 MHz PC3200 RAM or not - the speed is hardwired. No point paying more for the PC3200.

Most companies sell PC2700 (333 MHz) RAM for the iBook G4 series because PC2100 is fading out.

oops inaccurate information.

For some reason, I was looking at the 933mhz model. It looks like the other posts have been accurate, with your computer using PC2100 RAM (can use PC2700 too) and with a Max RAM of 1.2 GB so the 1GB chip is what you need to buy. The nice part is that the 512MB chip you have will sell for about what the 1GB will cost, because for a lot of systems the 512 chip is all they can hold.
