So I have this VERY old Word document that I password protected and, yes you guessed it, I can't remember the password. I know password-cracks exist, but are they any good? Has anyone ever tried one? What would be the best free/good ones (for either OS X or Windows)? I've tried every password I could possibly imagine, but no good. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Pull the hacker trick on yourself: Footprint yourself. As much as you can find, social, tele, address, birthdate, etc etc. And then spend a while trying various combinations of those.

I read once where it's like a real high percentage of people that choose passwords based on unalterable details about themselves...

I'm bad. I've been using the same password since 2001.
