iPod touch iPod Touch 2.1 update now available

I'm currently without my Mac, so I can't update, but I thought that Steve/Apple said that 2.1 would be out on Friday? What happened to that?

No, the iPhone version will be out Friday... they're probably doing this so the server load isn't TOO bad... heh.

iPod touch 2G is out now, so the update also needs to be out so that people can restore.
Presumably they want to really plan the iPhone update (sounds like a good idea to me

it comes out for the iphone on friday the ipod touch he said would be up at some point today...
Seems to be a common problem.
It's really annoying.
You have to backup, download the update, wait for it to install.
Then you realise it's 2.0.2 and you're back to iTunes nagging.
it is a common thing and its because people don't realize that its just not ready to download yet ....
I mean part of it should be apple giving a more user friendly message like "not available for download yet"
or people should just really calm down ... this isn't a life threatening update ... just watch some tv for a bit ... eat something ... do something other than sit in front of the computer... and later on when you come back it should be ready.
Except that iTunes IS telling people to update.
I do realise that it's not ready to update, but it's another thing that Apple has messed up lately.
Either:
1) Don't offer the update yet, don't tell people it's out yet and don't force people to reinstall the old software.
OR
2) Actually offer the new update when you claim that you will.
For me every update is important as I have found 2.0 to be quite buggy.
and i agree with you on that aspect but it only asks you once if there is an update ... i could see if you kept re-opening itunes but seriously the only reason its saying download now is if people are constantly clicking "update"
and if its that buggy ... you must have had the update for a while ... a few hours won't kill you will it ...
I admit apple has faults ... if it wern't for the touch i would have nothing to do with them myself... but things like this are to be expected and i'm sure within a few hours everything will be all great again.
The Genius List as well as a lot of bug fixes.
There are some other things that may or may not be present in the iPod touch release.
I don't think these things are expected - except maybe from 2008 Apple.
I've had five different iPod models, I've been through all of the announcements of new software etc. - I've never experienced a delay like this before.
It should be really simple to get this update out.
You'd hope that after iPhone 2.0 they'd have learnt how to publish a simple update.
I don't normally moan about this, but $9.95 for bug fixes and a new feature to sell you more stuff!...
